Private Reserve Shoreline Gold

I thought it would be nice to start the week with a review of a bright, sunshiny color:

I like Private Reserve inks as a whole. They have some really nice, saturated colors and are quite similar to Diamine in terms of overall good behavior. This one, though, I am just not excited about at all. It was a bit dry (though that could have been my pen - the stub for my Lamy Safari is overall dry), it’s a light color that I would never have a use for, and it just wasn’t spectacular enough to wow me. On the plus side, it did have a touch of water resistance, which I did not expect for such a light colored ink.

Overall, I think that there are a lot of variations of this yellow/gold/orange colored ink, and I think that there are better ones out there. There’s Yu-Yake, Apache Sunset, etc. Check out this tool to see other colors in the same range and I think you can probably find a better orange. Like I said before, I like PR, but this color is just not one I would ever use again.

This ink was purchased with my own money and I am not being compensated in any way for this review. All opinions above are my own and you are free to disagree with them if you like.

Looks like it might be good for the artists, but not really for everyday use.

Thanks for the review yogalarva.

Apache Sunset is not "gold". Are you looking for a gold, or an orange, or an orange-red, or a red-orange?

:)

You make a good point. :-) I suppose that I lump golds+yellows+oranges into one big group because they are not super practical colors for most purposes. But I really do need to try out the sample of Apache Sunset I have...

Yes, this ink can be problematic and it's always seemed a bit too light for most uses. Nice for occasional use though.

Perhaps an Extra Fine nib might play to its strengths (if any)? I've often found lighter inks take a darker hue when I try them with a finer tipped nib.......

Thank you for the review. I admit, I own this ink but NEVER use it.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I almost bought it just for its fabulous name

The color is MUCH lighter in your review than it was a few years back. My bottles are sort of an amber shade.

Ghost, do you think this is one of the inks that has changed when left alone in bottles for too long?

Yes. This and my Black Cherry seemed to rust over time (for lack of a better descriptor).

Orange Crush went from bright orange soday to the color of crushed autumn leaves in the bottle I received.

Look like good shading, but a bit light for my taste. Great review!

It looks wonderful in a flex pen; it's what I used for my icon thing. I also find it better behaved than Apache Sunset, for all it's worth and different enough from Yu-Yake to merit a purchase. It also looks fairly nice in the Pilot Parallel pens. Definitely too light for drier pens though.
