I have to say that my 149 is my holy grail pen. I really love the large ink capacity, the nib is extremely gorgeous, and the pen does not get scratched easily. Im actually thinking about selling my other 2 fountain pens in the market place, which will be a great deal for someone. The 149 is all I need.

Right now it's hard rubber Morrisons with sterling silver clover overlays. I see them on ebay, bid, but the prices always go way to high.

I'd rather spend my money on pens instead of shoes and handbags.

If only those pure in heart and free from desire may have their holy grail, then I may never have my Pelikan M800 in Tortoise!

Years ago I was lusting for the Montegrappa Dragon LE. I find this immature and embarrassing now :) Then it was a Miya Argento, and very recently I got over this too...

Currently, I am not after a single pen (to be more precise: I am, but can't seem to decide on just one). I certainly do like many many pens. Which is a problem because I don't want to buy and keep too many argh

I have always lusted after a Conway Stewart Churchill in chased ebonite ... never going to happen...

For vintage - I'd like a blue Sheaffer PFM IV that is somewhat affordable ... I have yet to find one however.

A pen a day keeps the doctor away...

What is that pen that you are constantly searching for, and when you have found it, personal circumstances keep you from buying it at the moment, but you still keep yearning for it?

Mine is the Conway Stewart Churchill in bracket brown resin. At 500 US Dollars, it definitely is the stuff of dreams, as it will remain just a dream.

Probably the Montblanc Louis XIV Patron of the Arts limited edition, closely followed by the Karl der Gross limited edition.

But the absolute non plus ultra for me is the Waterman Exception Solid Gold FP.

Barring a lottery win I'll never own any of them. :crybaby:

My obtainable grail pen is of course the Jules (I'm getting closer every day). My other grail pen may be somewhat more extreme, but that is because of my definition of a grail pen. The first definition of grail pen for me is a pen that costs more than any other pen in my collection. Once I get the Jules, that number will change and thus will move some pens from reach grail to obtainable grail (such as a M900 toledo or one of the more basic Grayson Tighes). My rationale for this is any pen that I already have, I had to work hard and save up. If I can save up for the Jules, then I could certainly save up for any pen cheaper. So, my two reach grails would be a David Oscarson Celestial and the MB Pope Julius II 888 edition. I hope I have not rambled too much.

This will probably change in the future, when I learn more, but my current Grail is a dunhill sidecar in the gunmetal finish (Ruthenium plated). But given my current pen budget, that is way out of my reach.

I remain impressed by the Waterman Serenite, F, and I really can't justify that purchase...beautiful writing instrument.

  • 9 months later...

I've been looking for a Waterman Man 100, black with gold trim and medium nib. That's my ultimate pen right now. But once I get it, I'm sure something else will come along. Like a Dupont Orpheo large size black with silver trim.

It's funny, I'm so stunned by the Stipula Bernini that I can't think of wanting another pen right now.

That said, my top three haven't changed: Dragon Pens's Jules, an Oscarson, and a Perchin.

Grail pen? Hmmmm... When I first started buying fountain pens, may grail pen was a Namiki VP (got one). Then, it was a Parker 51 (have two), and later an Esterbrook Dollar pen (got that one too). Now my grail pen would have to be either a mint 1928 Parker Duofold "Big Red" Lucky Curve, or a mint BCHR Conklin Crescent-filler. I will probably never buy either, because I would want to use them and I wouldn't want to take a chance on damaging them in any way.

This one costs about $ 1,800 plus $25.00 name engraving (also via Makie-e)

I know the price sounds outrageous, but it is probably the last modern FP I will ever buy. (Call me a sucker, but I just love high quality hand made crafts...)

Dave

I do not think anything is outrageous or too much if it feeds the heart and soul as I am sure this pen will do for you!

Me, well, I am fortuntate as I have one of my grails and another I knew nothing about until joining FPN is on it's way to me as I write.

When I was a child I used to have a favorite uncle. I used to watch him write with his Mont Blanc and wished so hard that I had one, forward twenty years and wishes come true! I was in Glasgow in the the summer of 2002 and was walking past a pen shop and thought of my long since departed uncle and went in. There in the display case were a number of MB's. I looked and looked, the lady showed me a few and the next thing I knew maddness ensued and my debit card came out! I write with my Chopin every day and think of my uncle!

Since joining here I have seen many new pens I have fallen in love with but apart with a brief flirtation with the thought of a Pelikan M1000 my heart fell for a Nakaya Portable writer in the beautiful black red finish and in the next few days it will be being put to good and productive use!

I guess the only pen that would tempt me after that would be an Agatha Christie MB, I used to live not far from where she lived and have always loved her work... One day, one day!

Pelikan m1000, hands down. You have no idea how stupidly wistful I've been over that pen. In reality I'm sure I would have a hard time setting aside that kind of money for one.
