What pen is your Holy Grail?

For quite a while, my modest grail has been a vintage Pelikan 100N. It just so happens that one arrived in the mail from Rick Propas on Saturday, so I'm pretty happy. It's a user-grade pen, but I love it!

I suppose I have two more grail-like pens:

1. Parker "51" DJ - either black, cordovan, or cedar blue with a gold-filled or sterling cap.

2. Pelikan 100 - black.

The rumor has it that there will be a Minamoto Musashi pen coming out... oh, rumors, just rumors. Better start to refresh my reading of "Book of Five Rings" to be worthy of this pen. I just hope the maki-e work is going to be exceptional.

Nettuno Trident. Ideally both the blue and the burgundy, but I care more about the blue.

Still my Duofold. It hasn't arrived yet, so I'm still yearning for it...I know, it's pitiful.

Apart from that, perhaps a Sheaffer flattop lever-filler from the late '20s. They're plain, but they look nice. And I'd like to learn how to use a lever-filler.

Okay, I liked. I want the squid pen in platinum. That's my holy grail. The recent waves-over-mother-of-pearl wouldn't suck, though.

After my ebonite collection's complete, I'm going on a sea theme tsunami.

I have two "Holy Grail" pens in my mind and they are a Graf von Faber Castell pen of the year 2005 in anthracite stingray/Galuchat , MSRP $2500, but have seen it for $1750, not a inexpensive pen. The other would be a custom David Broadwell , price range $1200 to $1700 or so.

Well at these prices they shall remain wants rather than haves for now. "Lose your dreams and you will lose your mind" Rolling Stones"

My Holy Grail is not a certain make, model or vintage....but rather an ideal.

I would like to find the pen that will quench my thirst for all other pens, the one that will quell my unending hunger for "something just a bit better." As yet, I haven't found it...thankfully.

If I ever did, that would be rather anti-climactic, wouldn't it?

Pen Gallery has your POY 2007 but you have to write in for the special price. They are the least expensive for the Faber-Castell POY that I have run across.

1. M800: I was able to try one locally during the holidays, and am spoiled now...

2. Pelikan "city series": either Berlin, Stockholm, Shanghai. SFrancisco, or Piazza Navona

3. would like someday to get a vintage pen but have not decided which yet

Well, I already have my Edson, my '61' and now a few Rotring 700s, so I've gotten a number of grails already.

The one pen I don't have but want very much is a Pelikan m620 San Francisco. Some of the other cities seem to be easy to obtain, but SF is just sitting out of reach (lost in the fog, perhaps?)

Who are the pen shops in your neighborhood? Find out or tell us where they are, at http://penshops.info/

My Conway Stewart Churchill nebula is an amazing pen. The quality of its materials, its construction, its aesthetics and that nib; I can let that sucker sit unused for weeks, pick it up, and it writes perfectly.

An increasingly close second is my Bexley Poseidon. Bexleys are an incredible value. The Poseidon has replaced my Pelikan M800 as my "go to" pen.

What is that pen that you are constantly searching for, and when you have found it, personal circumstances keep you from buying it at the moment, but you still keep yearning for it?

Mine is the Conway Stewart Churchill in bracket brown resin. At 500 US Dollars, it definitely is the stuff of dreams, as it will remain just a dream.

Joe Cali oversized celluloid button filler. A true artist. Expensive but I am sure worth every penney. Since this pen would be difficult to carry around other pens on the want list seem to get purchased first.

I gotta make Joe # 1 on the list by the next show
