hello jim,

my holy grail pen is a 1951 parker 51 flighter as well. just to be able to say i have a '51 51. it would have to be NOS with box/papers/stickers/stamps/rubber bands/paper clips...yada yada yada...although with a factory installed music nib.

thanks,

mike

An unused stickered Parker "51" Flighter set, (Pen & Pencil), from the 2nd Quarter of 1951 so it coincides with my birth month/year.

Trouble is once I find it will I just drool all over it or actually have the nerve to ink it up and use it :( Oh and by the by, can I have a nice original factory stub nib please

Jim

What is that pen that you are constantly searching for, and when you have found it, personal circumstances keep you from buying it at the moment, but you still keep yearning for it?

Mine is the Conway Stewart Churchill in bracket brown resin. At 500 US Dollars, it definitely is the stuff of dreams, as it will remain just a dream.

I don't have a 'Holy Grail' because I have nearly all the pens I've ever wanted. regardless of the price. I can afford nearly all pens execpt the ridiculously priced Michael Perchin, David Oscarson and Grayson Tighe ones. You'll find that $500 is not a high price for a high end fountain pen; the aforementioned brands offer pens at $5000 for sale!

Actually, there are some pens that I really would like, these being the Montblanc 'Karl der Grosse' and 'Louis XIV' limited editions, but I cannot justify spending $2,000 on a single pen. My limit is around $1,000.

I've also seen that Pelikan have recently introduced a new top range model, the Majesty. That pen is now very much on my 'hit list'!

The pen which was my holy grail was the Montblanc Meisterstuck. I just loved the design sooooooooooooooooooo much. When I finally got it I thought I'd have to admit myself to hospital because I thought I'd died and gone to heaven.

Right now my 'holy grail' is a Parker 51.

I have two kinds of "Holy Grail" --

1. The kind that's easy to get but I can't afford - leading this category is a Danitrio Tamenuri Densho.

2. The kind that's hard to find. This includes a bunch of odd Esterbrooks, some early Watermans, a Sheaffer PFM, and just about everything in these pictures...

My "Holy Grail" is a MontBlanc Agatha Christie. Not that hard to find, I know, especially for a limited edition, but in my present financial circumstances, I can't justify spending that kind of money on a pen. (I do hope to send my son to college one day!) So at present, I just enjoy searching for good deals. I seem to be gathering a number of inexpensive international pens, and I think that's pretty neat -- I would love to travel someday and see the countries of origin!

Like Marc said above, I've got two categories.

1. The attainable but too spendy for me right now - a Pelikan M805 blue stripe with an XF stub.

2. The harder to find, but maybe not so terribly expensive - a Q1 1951 Midnight Blue or Forest Green Parker 51 (XF please), with a Lustraloy cap (chrome plated fittings) for the Midnight Blue, or a "Heritage" ("Heirloom" would be fine, too) cap for the Forest Green. The date code would coincide with my father's birthday - in February of that year.

Only the pure in heart may find the Holy Grail. To be pure in heart, one must be free from desire. Therefore, be content. Here endeth the lesson.

Well, that's not good news. That's just not good news at all.

I've been on a quest to see if I could commit all Seven Deadly Sins in a single day. Finally, it dawned on me I shouldn't try for the One Day Wonder Prize for all seven in one day. It's simply out of any question as you can't commit decent sloth while busily ticking the other six off your crowded "to do" list. :bonk:

Now, I can't even find the Grail Pen? Obviously having considered a try at the Seven Deadlies, I'll never be pure of heart again. Sheesh. :o

Maybe I should have just left the Seven Deadlies alone.

Sigh...

Spring and love arrived on a bird's sweet song. "How does that little box sound like birds and laughter?" I asked the gypsy violinist. He leaned back, pointing to his violin. "Look inside, you'll see the birdies sing to me" soft laughter in his voice. "I hear them, I can almost see them!", I shouted as his bow danced on the strings. "Ah yes" he said, "your heart is a violin." Shony Alex Braun

As it began for Shony, it began for me. My heart -- My violin

Pilgrim, I bid thee good luck on thy journey through the Holy Pen Shop to the crypt of the Montblanc Meisterstuck. There, the Chief Penmaker shall annoint thee with ink and present thee with thy holy grail. Godspeed, noble collector, godspeed...*salutes*

Damn you, Col!! That means none of us will ever recieve the pens that which have so-often desired and dreamed about!! *begins to cry*. I've been dreaming about the Meisterstuck for at least 10 years. I never EVER thought I'd own one...well, I was wrong.

And no taking quotes out of "The Untouchables".

My current search is for a pencil- I found a '50 flighter 51 with the long arrow clip, so I need a similiar vintage matching pencil. There's hope- I just found a pencil to match my PMF IV after about a year of searching so it might turn up yet...

For me is the Mont Blanc Alaxander the Great Patron of the Art series. While I dont think it is hard to find but it sure cost a lot of money.

I suppose I have two "Holy Grail Pens."

1. A Parker "51" Flighter. I know I could easily get one if I was willing to plunk down $300+, but I really don't want to spend that much (I'd rather spend $200 for one, and then another $100 to have Richard Binder work his mojo on it).

2. A Montblanc Sir Georg Solti pen. This one is a bit of an irrational desire. I'm a fan of Solti's Wagner recordings. But the pen just costs too much.

I was under the impression that vintage pens "creep you out"? - they don't get much more vintage than the 452.

May we live, not by our fears but by our hopes; not by our words but by our deeds; not by our disappointments but by our dreams.

They're out there. Found one for under $150 that has worked perfectly without a bit of tweaking.

Today it is the Bexley Deluxe in Antique Cream, but who knows what tomorrow will bring?

I'm also craving a Mahogany Owner's Club 2007, but hopefully I'll be getting one of these soon. :happyberet:

Isn't it funny how our dream pens become our owned pens?
