The Porsche Solid. 3135 in Titanium. 18 kt gold gold M nib

I have to change my answer. The OP said it has to be a pen we don't already have. In that case, it would be the Mont Blanc Heritage 1914. In Red

At 17000 dollars, that's just a wee bit outta my league

The Parker Trench Pen. It is the research that brought me to FPN. The story is that the US Government ordered one million units for use by the military, one hundred years ago. I have never seen one.

I don't have a set definition for a grail pen yet. I just love all pens that write well, look reasonably attractive to me and are made well to last. The price isn't much of a factor, aka, expensive does not qualify for grail status. Pens from the following brands are high on the list of favorites:

* Levenger (surprise! surprise!)

* Ranga Handmade

* Conway Stewart

* Pelikan

* Visconti

* Omas

* MontBlanc

More expensive the pen, the harder it is for me to muster the courage to buy and use it due to the fear of damaging a beautiful and delicate pen.

I really dig the Izumo Ironwood. My grandfather planted an ironwood tree on Maui on Armistice Day (the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918). I reckon it turns 100 in a couple years. If all goes well, I might ask Platinum to make me a commemorative pen for Dad to mark the centennial. Here's a picture of the tree.

Great story. I have been to Maui a couple of times myself to vacation and scuba dive. I will look for your Grandfather's tree the next time I am there. Best of luck with obtaining your grail pen in honor of your Grandfather!
