Diamine Tyrian Purple

An update: just to report that both inks flushed out of my pens easily, with no staining or other issues

 

(Kaweco AL-Sport Raw with metal "cage" aeromatic-style converter & Kaweco Sport Skyline with Kaweco Sport mini squeezy converter)

This is cotton dyed with the traditional pure dye from the Murex mollusc shell. It has always been known as purple. Question is, how close is the Diamine ink to the traditional Tyrian purple?

Well, bearing in mind all the obstacles between matching an ink on paper to a cotton yarn, I say Diamine have got it bang on!

 

I just have to square my interpretation of purple with that of the ancient murex dyers and I don't think that will cause much sleep loss.

Goulet Pens has it. I got my sample yesterday and I totally agree that it resembles the old BSiAR. It's a lovely dusty purpley/magenta. Sorry that's the best I can describe it. The review above looks very spot on. It's coming out richer in my pen, though the color is the same just a tiny bit deeper, but that could be monitors too. It is gorgeous! I bought the sample and I'm back for the bottle.

It does, except it's missing that hint of black (plus the waterproofness). I have to wonder if one added some Noodler's Black to Tyrian Purple if it would more closely resemble old BSAR?

It's here! I love it -- it's exactly the purple I wanted.

 

I'll have to post a sample this weekend -- I've got to run to class in a bit, where my notes will obviously be written in purple.

How lovely this ink looks! Can anyone compare it with R&K Alt Bordeaux? I wonder how they look beside one another.
