Great review! I like how you have used the ink in combination with other inks, it's a work of art!

I've just checked some Susemais. Red Cashmere has odd, muddy look in Pasteur Pipette. I'll check how it writes but first I'll post ink splash.

I was getting ready to comment, that this color MUST be Red Diamond. Red Cashmere looks muddy when it is undiluted. The color range on RC is between Dark Brown to Red Chalk with lots of sheen in between. Red Diamond has a lot more pink.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

And now let's take a look at ink I like least from the Susemai's I've receioved from Amber. Actually the words "I don't like" don't describe what I feel. Let's just say it's really close to the top of my ink color hate - list. There are pinks I tolerate (Ooji Cherry from my incredible ink-smuggling partner in crime Cyber6), but this one is nightmarish.

I've received the sample in Pasteur Pipette described as Black Diamond but evidently it's not Black :)

It looks strange (like some radioactive pizza sauce) in the pipette:

Ahh.. you are such a "boy" Vis... Red Diamond is a lovely pink, different than Ooji Cherry for sure.., but lovely none the less.

I think I need to overload you with pink inks.. (Levenger Pinkly, Baystate Cranberry, OS Lewis Carroll, Akkerman Pulchri Pink... lol) .. maybe it will give you a new perspective in life...

Well - I'm not sure afraid my poor mind would bare it, Cyber. It could just explode or scatter into pieces. You better give me some safe browns.

I can manage pink - once in a while - Ooji Cherry was the only pink I really, hmmm, liked. Yes. I've said it. Publicly. This color is amazingly joyful and has some "juice" to it. Most of pinks, however, make my teeth hurt :) And this one makes my teeth hurt so much I can't bare it.

If this ink would stay in solution, it would be amazing.

I’m still swamped with all the stuff that I neglected while playing with ink, but I just -have- to chime in on this remark.

At the 4% concentration that I’ve been using, the ink behaves just like any other red ink. I see no sediments, crud is about the same as I get from other reds, nothing out of the ordinary. Granted, I’d strongly recommend against anything more concentrated, but why would one do that? The colour is much nicer at 4% anyway. ;‌o)

Ah, another thing: Since I’m short on time right now, the pen with Red Diamond was mostly lying unused on my desk for almost a week. No sediment buildup, no startup problems, nothing. I picked it up right now, works as if I had it inked up five minutes ago.

You mentioned on some other thread that there might have been some variation in what ended up in the pipettes, that maybe the surfectants or whatever probably weren’t evenly distributed, thus each one of us might have received a slightly different formulation. From what I’ve seen in this thread, this might explain the vastly different results people seem to have with Red Diamond in particular.

The vial where I’ve decanted the pipette is another story: As soon as left for half an hour, there’ll be a thick layer of sludge at the bottom. But that’s just because at 16% it’s clearly overconcentrated. It’d be very interesting to see what would happen to a bottle of conventional ink that’s four times as concentrated as usual; my guess is that the results would be the same.

To Team Susemai: Please don’t yet dismiss Red Diamond. ^^ As far as I see it, it’d warrant some more tests to control for the mishaps in the mixing, before deciding that it needs to be reformulated.

Bouncing off this information, I topped off the Red Diamond vial with water (2 ml) and let it sit overnight. There was some sedimentation, but not as much as there had been before. I dipped into the liquid at the top of the vial, and the color was still bright, well saturated, and Pepto-y. I'm going to pour off the liquid into another vial and keep it for those (extremely rare) times when I will want pink ink. I will also rehydrate the sediment and see what happens.

Remembering my HS chemistry class, I believe that the problem is that the ink at 16% and 8% was super-saturated, more pigment than the quantity of water could hold. You can do this with sugar water -- keep adding sugar, and you will eventually get to the point that there is more sugar in the glass than the amount of water can dissolve. At that point you no longer have a solution; you have a suspension, and when the water stops moving, the undissolved sugar will settle out at the bottom of the glass.

I think that Red Diamond is salvageable as a Susemai ink color; just increase the amount of water, or decrease the amount of pigment powder.

Fear not. Worse is yet to come as MB now is coming out with pink in "cute" bottles. Swell.

Awww, I love those cute little mini MB bottles! Will you be getting a couple dozen and giving them out as holiday favors this year?
