Rapair Parker 180

I have a Parker 180. I was very happy with it, it writes wery well, does not present significant problems.

Recently I stated using black ink with the pen and after a short while the pen started to dry out, had to wet thr nib for it to start writing again. I rinsed it with water, the wrriting improved, then it deteriorated again.

I decided to wash the pen more thoroughly. Took ot the nib and washed it under running water. After that, the nib started going into the pen very easyly. I am afraid for it will fall out of the pen all at once and spill ink all over.

Please comment if there is some kind of sealing which I might have damaged or what may be the cause. There are no visible damages on the nib body or the opening into which it goes.

Black ink is highly pigmented & in particular if you're using the permanent variety it often behaves miserably. I've got the same issues with some permanent black ink cartridges that I'm using currently. The pen behaves just fine with other inks. My aim is to use up the cartridges but if it was my intent to write with black ink on an on-going basis, I'd experiment with other manufacturers' inks &/or go to a less permanent flavour.

What black ink are you using. Sounds like it might be a pigment based black.

I used Parker Quink cartridge black ink all thru college in my 180, no problem.

I suggest either Waterman or Pelikan black. Waterman ink is a more liquidy ink, and if the pen writes too wet, switch to Pelikan ink.

 

Difficult to diagnose without the pen in my hand to inspect, and to compare to mine.

 

As for the nib, yes you may have damaged the part of the feed that goes into the pen.

If the ink was crusted up inside the pen, pulling the nib assembly out could have distorted the feed as it was being pulled out over the crusted up ink.

You may have to replace the nib assembly....so 2 questions

- Do you want to retain the dual nib M/X B/F? If so, you need a 180 nib. Sometimes difficult to find.

- Or can you be satisfied with a single nib X,F,M,or B? If you can, get a Classic nib, which is cheaper and easier to find than a 180 nib. The nibs are interchangeable between these 2 models. I currently have a 180 nib in a Classic.

Hopefully you did not damage the inside of the section, as that is more difficult to replace.
