Lamy 27E Vs. Montblanc 254

JF_LAMY Collection

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Well, I noticed, that there is a Montblanc forum, but that there is not a LAMY forum.

I also noticed that my MB-254 topic has a few more views than my LAMY FPs topics, so I decided to take a LAMY 27e and already posted Montblanc 254 and put them side by side as two German Ink-Bahn warriors.

Montblanc 254 is the year 1959 and LAMY 27e must be about the same year considering the first version with the blind cap (I think) was introduced in 1952.

Let me know what you think, please ...

Another Lamy fan here. Thanks for the threads you've started with photos of the 17, etc. I have only a 2000, Safari Vista, and a 99 in teal. All three are great writers.

As to this comparison, I'm not a big MB fan, although I like the style of some of their pens (22, 24, 221, etc.). In this case, I prefer the semi-hooded nib of the 27e, as well as its more rounded barrel end at the piston knob.

Hello Majorworks,

Thank you for your comment and also for the point given to LAMY!

I still feel that LAMY pens, especially the vintage ones are (compared to other German brands) a bit underestimated.

My goal is to show some of the not so well known LAMY FPs that I am lucky to have.

Thank you.

Hi ac12,

Which LAMY 27 will you get?

Jan

Don't know yet, still doing research to see what is available and which I can afford.

I think it will be driven by what I can find.

I had a chance at a 27, but at the time I was interested in the 99s desk pen, so I did not get the 27.

Now I am kicking myself for letting that 27 go past me.

Hi ac12, well no need to kick yourself, there is still plenty of LAMY 27 out there. Try the German eBay. My first I got was the 27e (see above) but these days I like the earlier models with metal caps and blind caps a bit more.

And thank you for your comment, Sir Humphrey Appleby. Which pen is getting a point from you, Keyless Works?

Have a great weekend,

Jan

Is there a way to vote for the creation of a Lamy forum? Glad to see I'm not alone! :-)

Lord, grant me the serenity to avoid the pens I don't need,

the dough for those I need and the wisdom to know the difference.

I believe there isn´t, but I am pretty sure, that one day, there will be one. There are many LAMY models out there, and it will take some time to collect them. Unfortunately, there is not much info about the vintage models anywhere ... Jan

Maybe the LAMY_80_profil (PROFIL series) ... ?

Oh yea, that looks pretty close to the size, thickness and style alright. Nib looks easier to maintain (clean, adjust etc) compared to the 225's which I've never been able to figure out how to get out, but least the section unscrews from the front of the ink reservoir.

Is the nib on the 80 Profil the same format as the ones you find now (that can be used on a Safari, Al-Star etc)?

The Profil 81 looks closer with the brushed stainless steel cap, appeared similar to the Platinum coated cap I have, also that also has a platinum coated 14K nib.

Hello KBeezie,

the nibs are different.

The ones on profil series pens are longer and wider, plus the "side skirts" are also longer.

I believe that LAMY_80_profil and LAMY 81 profil have gold nibs. LAMY 86 profil and Safari on the other hand do not ...

No need for a Lamy forum vote any more....it's here.

If you truly want a Lamy forum, Lamy will go bankrupt in no 'noobie' can find it to talk about, to know they should spend three times more for a Safari than a Chinese pen.

I've a few Artus pens, a 27, Persona; black titanium oxide, older CPM-1, Joy & Safari, plus four or five different ball points for my wife, who is waiting for retirement to use them, fearing thieves at work......should get them all engraved with her name.

We went on a Lamy Factory tour last summer and got given....a Ball Point Pen!!!

They make 600,000 pens a year....so don't make them move to China, buy Lamy not Hero fake Safaris.

Here you find out not only about Lamy, but other pens. In a pure Lamy sub-forum, you would not expand your knowledge easily....you'd have to hunt and search, and might not.
