I can't get over how cool traveling to Japan to have a little, old Japanese man with the title Blending Master mix you up a custom ink in a cocktail shaker is. For an ink lover, it's like level 100 awesomeness.

Well, I didn't travel to Japan to have ink made. I have been living in Japan for the past 15 years. I did have to travel down town with wife and infant in tow, but didn't travel from overseas.

What a wonderful story and what a beautiful ink! It is a shame that Western cultures do not appreciate fountain pens and inks as the Japanese do.

This appreciation is far from universal here. My students and wife think I am nuts for spending so much on any writing instrument, especially in the age of tablets and iPhones.

It was a special event held at Itoya in Ginza, Tokyo. The have several throughout Japan each year.

I'm assuming it's the second floor as there's clearly a lack of floor space on K. Itoya

Actually, it was on the first floor.

Thank you for sharing pictures of such a personal ink! It looks like a beautiful color :happycloud9: And I can't believe he made it 2 shots! I am definitely going to need to take a trip to Japan someday

This was such a very cool story to read! What a wonderful experience! I can only imagine how much fun such an experience would be.

I'd love to see this done at a pen show here in the US. Can you imagine the length of the lines?

The only way to do it would be to take reservations in advance.

Rationalizing pen and ink purchases since 1967.

What a nice blue ink.

Do you have any more custom ink mixtures you like?

New to fountain pens, older to dip pens.

Nope, just the one. I am pretty satisfied with the other colors I have. I have many blue I love but couldn't find "the one".
