I gave a bit of a preview of this green about a month ago and compared it to two other greens in my herd. You can check that post out here if you missed it, but right now I want to talk about Aventurine on its own:

Given that the Edelstein line is a “premium” group of inks similar to Iroshizuku, performance was what I expected. The flow was good, both in my big stub and in my Vanishing Point with a medium nib. I never had any problems with hard starts or skipping and overall this ink was just a joy to use.

I think that this ink represents my new standard of pure green. Not yellow-green, not forest green, not leaf green… just green. Vibrant, clear, emerald green.

The downsides? Well, as you can see, there’s no real water resistance and it will bleed a bit on cheap paper, but that’s to be expected for a conventional ink that is otherwise a great performer. I’m pretty sure that you just can’t have it all - there’s always a trade-off, but for this color it might be worth it.

Overall, I really recommend this ink if you want a really solid, well-behaved green. The Edelstein inks aren’t quite as pricey as Iroshizuku ($23 vs $28 for 50 mL), but there certainly are cheaper inks out there if you are all about getting the best deal for your money. Like I said in my comparison post about greens, I will probably not be buying a bottle of this soon because I already have two other greens, but if you do not already have a favorite green then I really suggest at least trying this one as a sample.

This ink was purchased with my own money and I am not being compensated for this review in any way. All opinions expressed above are my own and you are free to disagree with them if you like.

This ink has been a solid performer for me. yogalarva's experiences are similar to my own. I tend to use it more as a spring ink as the weather starts to become warmer and the landscape...well greener.

an aptly matched nib and ink. thanks for sharing.

Very nice review, thanks for sharing!

I had a bottle of Aventurine a while ago but have used it up a few months ago. It was nice to look at and performed very well. It just didn’t really blow me away, it was a bit too subdued for my taste—so at least for me, at that price I probably wouldnt’t buy it again.

A dwarf’s unfailing capacity to believe what he prefers to be true rather than what the evidence shows to be likely and possible has always astounded me. We long for a caring Fortress which will save us from our childish mistakes, and in the face of mountains of evidence to the contrary we will pin all our hopes on the slimmest of doubts. Gold has not been proven not to exist, therefore it must exist.
