D C Pen Show. Who's Going?

For those who are planning to take the free shuttle from Dulles: they just announced a change in the pick up area - instead of 2H, they will be picking up at Departures United Zone 4.

I saw this on the DC pen show's FB page, but they haven't updated it on their website yet.

Thanks!

On the DC pen show website it says there is free parking at the Sheraton. Does that only apply to people staying at the hotel or can anyone attending the show park? Trying to figure out if I have to find some kind of parking arrangement elsewhere if convention parking is excessively expensive.

Try Tysons Corner Center Mall, free parking and it's about a mile or two from the hotel. The Silver Line Metro station is connected to the Mall near Lord & Taylor, I believe on the 1st floor. The parking garage near Barnes and Noble usually has plenty of parking.

Not to be confused with the more upscale Tysons Galleria Mall which is about a half mile or so from Tysons Corner Center and is not connected to the Silver Line Metro station.

There is a Paradise Pen in Tysons Corner Center on the 1st floor near Macy's. Plus a Levenger on the 2nd floor near Nordstroms.

Tysons Galleria does have the area's Mont Blanc Boutique on the 2nd floor across from Saks 5th Avenue, so it might be worth a visit for some people.

Conklin ink given away by Pen World Saturday and Sunday - first 200 people each day.

Excuse for a pre-dawn road trip on Saturday!!! :)

Actually, I'm just driving down from Baltimore County, MD, and was planning on getting to the show at around 10am, anyway. But for free ink, maybe I'll leave here a little earlier than I'd planned.

I do so hope it's a full size ink bottle, and not some 15ml sample size.

Im here now and have a few questions.

I thought having nib tuning/grinding was a free for all, but I'm also reading that people book in advance and meet up at the show. Seeing as I am here now, is there a possibility of putting my name on some list with the preferred person? Also, if it is possible how does one do that?

Is cash king? Are credit cards even allowed? I have heard that most retailers keep prices at full retail and that haggling does not really happen. Im not to keen on pulling a bunch of cash unless I have to. I am looking for a MB Christie :/

I hope to see you all!!!

Nib grinding is not free. But if you were to purchase a Sailor Pen new at the show the nib master from that company is going to be there and he will set the nib up for you. I am sure cash is always welcome but most also except CC.

Ask at the show in the morning who is there that can do what you need done to your nibs. Then go to them and put your name on the list.

I'm sure everyone accepts cash, but at most large shows I've been to over the past decade (fountain pen shows, gun shows, computer shows, etc.), credit cards are the most common form of payment. Heck, these days anyone with a smart phone can get a free credit card reader and free app and accept credit cards. (Sure, the company takes a few percent of the payment as its fee, but that's still usually far better than missing out on making sales due to an inability to accept plastic.)

I didn't mean the nib grinding being free in my free for all. I meant that it was a first come first serve. I saw some people that were scheduling grindings via home pages. So this would in essence already put be in the back of the line.

I am signed up for Richard's nib-smoothing class Sunday and then will go on to the sale rooms. I have a Delta pen that writes a wet M that I would love to get someone to sand down to a fine and I love vintage pen parts...oh, and ink, and repair stuff, and...

Huge parking lots in front and beneath the hotel. Likely no one notices whether the cars are those of guests or visitors.

Can't wait for the show. Arriving late Thursday morning & staying until the end Sunday evening. Bringing lots of current Italian, Japanese, & German pens, plus US pens from 1920s & 30s. Looking forward to seeing old friends & meeting new ones. Yipee!

Hi Barry,

I am at the show too. Where are you located? I'd like to take a look at some of your Japanese pens.

Also wondering if the sellers buy pens at the show. I have come into a bunch of Japanese vintage FP's that would like to get rid of.
