Arabic Calligraphy Practice

Pretty shading & I really appreciate the translation of the verse to go with it. I wonder if guidelines to keep the Arabic words as straight as the English would help?

I Photoshopped it to see the effect. I also tweaked the height of the first laam for aesthetic reasons, and corrected the descender on the haa. How's this?

This looks really good Renzhe - the staggered verticals add a nice touch.

i think they can be helpful to some extent cause arabic is written in a straight line from left to right

Looks pretty dense. My untrained eyes can't tell if the dots are on the line above or below.

its depends on the word

in a word there can be a letter which will be having two dots over it and there can be a letter in same word which will have two dots below it

"On every dishonest man, there are two watchmen, his possessions and his way of living."

Hazrat Umar bin Khattab (May Allah be pleased with him)

I think that's what Renzhe means about density. If you leave a little more blank space between the lines,it's easier to read?

you are right.there should be more space between lines.

it is an A4 size paper and i wanted to write the translation too on the same paper but still there was not sufficient space for it.

I'm planning on taking a class in Ottoman calligraphy in Istanbul this fall. I am starting with your lessons, Salman. Thank you for making it relatively simple to see how the letters are drawn.

Kathleen - I am happy that the lessons are useful to you. They cover just the basics though so feel free to ask if you have any questions.

Calligraphy lessons in Istanbul you say - I'm jealous. Make sure to bring back Calligraphy supplies - lots of them. You can never have enough.

Regards,

Salman
