6 Sailor Inks

Recommended Posts

Bought the new Sailor Jentle inks in a fit of spending last week. Not too into very dark colors so will probably not get the last 2 colors, Doyou and Miruai. Otherwise these are the new colors that replace the previous set.

This is the first time I am doing this type of comparison. So excuse me if some of the observations are a little newbie-ish.

_Tokiwa Matsu is probably my favorite. I love green inks, particularly ones that are yellow hued.

_Some of the colors appear, look and behave differently on different pens. Eg Nioi Sumire looks distinctly purple on the broad pen, but is more blue on finer pens.

_Oku-yama is my most sheening ink right now. Love the metallic green sheen over the burgundy brown color.

_Sailor inks have a very interesting smell that is distinctive, even when you write.

Great comparison, thank you! Is this the 2014 Tokiwa-Matsu or the 2010 one?

Disillusion, they are all the recent new releases.

Swanjun, Shigure is indeed intriguing. I especially love it in the double broad nib. In a medium nib, it just turned out black and boring.

This may just have cost me a bottle of Oku-yama! Thanks.

Thank you for this comparison! I was desperate to find an ink the matched the sky after sunset, navy and turquoise. I didn't actually think it existed - until today!

I hate this type of review.... One that costs me six inks.

Okay, thanks a lot.

Great work, wonderful writing! Well Oku-yama and Yama-dori is certainly a hit, but Shigure also in my sights...

Shigure needs to be in a fairly dry pen else it will look like black... it can be used on flex nibs as well so its probably a good test, Oku-yama is still like Grenade, Souten is Sky High, Tokiwa-Matsu is like Epinard, Nioi Sumire is like Ultramarine the only truly unique colors in the Shikisei is Yama-dori and Shigure

Thanks for the comparison!

Yama-dori is at the top of my list for the new Sailor colors. I'd try Shigure, but I'm afraid it will be similar to my experience with PR Ebony Purple... A black ink in pretty much every pen I try it in.

So many inks, so little time...

Its definitely not black, but it can get pretty dark though...

Hard to tell if its a purplish blue or a bluish purple. It can have a nice gold sheen that's for sure.

Thanks for posting this! I have Grenade (reportedly similar to Oku-yama) and Souten for reference, meaning I have a better idea of the other inks' appearance in person. Sou-Ten looks rather pale here, though. Then again, I usually load it into my wetter writers for that red sheen :P

Cheers!

Broke down and ordered a bottle of Yama-Dori today. Can't wait to try it out.
