Ink Splatter (Decoration)

Hi, I know this may sound weird, but I find ink splatters to be works of art. May I know how do I achieve an ink splatter effect? Does turning the converter the other way work? How about pens on cartridges?

Maybe an eyedropper will work best...

If ink splatter is art, then I'm Vincent Van Gogh! (Actually more like Jackson Pollock...)

Try absorbent paper and dropping it from more height, also in order to get better droplets I suggest you use a small syringe.

I have used both converter and pen, but using a pen can be risky. I'm sure there may be others who have a much better technique, but I have found that distance works best for me. Distance being you from what ever it is you want the ink splat on. I have taped or propped up the paper (used art paper), stepped back a few feet and flicked the converter or pen. Other times, I have put the paper on the floor (protect the floor and what's around it), stepped up on a ladder and allowed droplets fall. There are many techniques ... using a straw is one of them. Experiment and see what works best for you. Distance works best for me.

Note: Using a pen may be risky, due to dropping the pen or it go flying when flicking ink onto what ever you want the droplet on.

I'd try it outdoors (or with lots of newspaper around). But, then just flick the ink at the paper. You might load it in a spoon or on the end of a knife blade.

I did this using left over samples of inks.

...laid down some plastic in the garage

...used a big sheet of absorbent paper found at Michael's

...spattered from various heights

...did some splatters straight from the sample bottles

...did some sprays from syringes

...held my hand still at times - moved it around others

It was mega-fun and sections of the piece are pretty cool looking. If I was going to do it again, I would limit the number of dark colors (maybe even just sticking with one color?).

Mr. Pentulant would probably prefer that I do it outside (it was windy and cold that day) because even with the plastic down, I still managed to make a bit of a mess - that he stepped in. Oops :)

It was fun :)

edited to add...I know an artist who loads up a toothbrush with paint and creates small spatters by running her thumb over the bristles.
