Leonardo "great Characters" Help

Recommended Posts

Hello!

I have been desperately trying to obtain the Leonardo fountain pen, but I've been in an accident that has kept me from working for a while now. I'm a musician, and for a year I have been working on a piece of music dedicated to da Vinci and his work. Interestingly enough, the pen ties into the music perfectly. The piece will be premiered at the Boston Conservatory this year. All that aside, I'm in love with this pen and would like to know if anyone has any suggestions on how to make something similar, find a good deal, or anything at all. Thanks so much!

Kevin

That's not the only pen that's named after Leonardo BTW. Leonardo's a pretty popular guy, enough that there are a few pens named after him. Montblanc's is one of the more expensive ones though. If you're taken by the looks and design of the pen, I can't help you there. It's going to be expensive and there's no going around that. It's going to be hard to come by one that's going to be cheap since it's still currently made, and most people who buy it, do so with an eye to it's exclusivity. So even if it turns up on the secondary market it's not going to be cheap.

Stipula also makes a Da Vinci pen with a retractable nib. There is quite a few versions of the pen and it's getting harder and harder to find. The pen is in the more palatable 100s instead of 1000s. The latest incarnation has a carbon fiber body and a titanium nib. The one I like best is the one with the acrylic body. Those are hefty, and have 14K nibs. However they are hard to come by these days. There are limited editions that are much more expensive with gold overlays. There is also one that has a wooden body.

Aurora also makes one.

Check Bryan Greer's website. There are a few to see.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the links! It is true what you say. I have been trying to find anyone who can make something 'like' it (of course not to resemble exactly the MB), but I have few leads on who might make something for less that $1,000. I simply like the tributes to da Vinci. Several pens are named after him but lack the dedication in feature.
