International - Cooperative - Unobtainable - (I C U) Ink Review - Blue Amber

Well, it isn't that dark at 8% dilution. The dark blue is at 16% - and I had no flow issues. The very light violet is just where I refilled the pen with water AFTER having used the dark blue.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

That is so cool.

Very cool! What's the chemical magic happening there, oxidation? As the water evaporates?

Yet, the 16% that Amber has shown looks much more like the grayish blue of the color of the ink. Very interesting, and fun! If everyone wasn't asleep here I'd be flushing my final pen and then filling up my test subjects. I can't wait!

Not the greatest light for determining color, but having too much fun with this at work to wait.

I also did some quick water tests at home this morning and found it to be surprisingly water resistent. I swabbed a bit onto some HP Laser Jet paper, let it dry then dumped a big puddle of water on it and let it sit for 3 minutes. Most of it was still there. I have the sample sheets for that at home. Here's what I just did at work.

With the giant Osmiroid B4 nib, it takes a while to dry, but the Diamine Asa Blue in a Lamy 1.1 took longer on this Red and Black notebook paper.

More to come later.

Yay! Package arrived safely and speedily.

Thanks Amber. I really appreciate being part of this wonderful test.

After clearing up the mess from a particularly poor fill, I attach my initial findings:

http://www.taskyprianou.com/fpn_amber_BA_8_percent_stillman_and_birn.jpg

I love how it splits when washed over (Post box on Stillman & Birn) but am not in love with the colour it splits into - fussy I know

My main niggle is that the ink at 8% is too free flowing in my test pen.

This pen can produce some gorgeously thin and expressive lines but I felt everything was a "medium" today with the BA ink.

Feathering on cheap paper is an issue too sadly.

The smell is divine, devine if you like Germoline - which I do. Reminds me of school and scraped knees in the playground etc.

Overall I like the ink and it's, to me, unique colouring and properties.

I'm not a big user of blue so far and the only other ink I have that comes close in colour is WES Imperial Blue although it is way more saturated and much closer towards the purple end of things.

Looking forward to playing with some a little more diluted when the "Parase" runs dry.

Much love and happiness and thanks again for your time and generosity. :)

This is my first ink review so please be a little lenient. I enjoy the color, and only really saw blue when I did the water drop test on the copy paper. I hope everything is legible. Tas, LOVE the artwork. I envy your skill.

Oh, good, I'm not the only one who's noticed this -- the effect is truly remarkable on the page!

All dry now. I've diluted the remaining mix you gave me (8%) with 1:1 water and the result reminds me a lot of a two tone suit:

So I did two more reviews for the SuSeMaI Blue Amber using my TWSBI Vac 700 on both the copy paper and the Rhodia Dot Pad. I also took out the Esterbrook again and tried to railroad. It actually took a little bit of an effort, and whenever I paused for a second it started back up again. I also took a couple pictures of my pen to show the color variation present even there.

Try rinsing the Blue Amber under water. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Ok, finally. I'm more of a use it on a bunch of paper and see what happens kind of reviewer. Others have been more methodical (and probably helpful), but hopefully I'll add something.

I wanted to really see some extremes, so I used a Parker 45 with a fine nib, one with a medium nib, and then my Osmiroid with a giant B4 nib.

Much of this is on HP Premium Laser Jet paper unless specified otherwise.

I filled my pens with some of the ink then used the last little bit with swabs. I was quite surprised with how water-fast this was.

I put a big swab of it, then dropped a significant blob of water on it and left it for three minutes. Some of the ink dissolved up into the water, but not nearly as much as I expected.

On the right you can see that it doesn't get significantly darker on this paper with multiple swipes. That may be the paper.

Next, show more of the shading, then on different papers
