Gama's Homage To The Skyline

My question is - how does one get the larger size airborne? Is it likely to be generally available or does one need to put in a special request?

Thanks and cheers

Sudhir

Most likely it would (should ?) be launched under ASA brand. Edited by a_m

Hi Hari

Thanks for sharing the pictures and the review. A usual, it was informative and eye-candy.

I got the mottled brown Airborne - standard size. My question is - how does one get the larger size airborne? Is it likely to be generally available or does one need to put in a special request?

Thanks and cheers

Sudhir

Dear Sudhir, thank you. I have bought these bigger Gama skyline/airborne pens from ASA, there is no reason he would not sell you one. Esp if you ask him nicely. :)

Best

I did that, and it comes with a Schmidt nib unit and converter. Plus got a couple of extra Jowo nib units at a very reasonable price. Yesterday was a good day. :)

Thank you.

Hi

Here are some pics of the Gama Airborne Large with Schmidt nib and feed unit and converter. These are a few pics taken in a hurry. I've not yet inked the pen due to time constraints. I plan to do so over the holidays and also put up some comparison pics. But first impressions are that this is a nicely balanced pen and should write very well. The shape is made for posting and that is clearly a bonus.

Thanks Sudhir, as I had expected, this is a fatter section threads version of the big airborne, hence the correct installation of the nib unit. Good to see. enjoy!

Very nice, thanks for sharing. I'm wondering a little, is the pen faceted, or is that an artifact of the light?

How I wish that were the case :) it is the lighting.

I was afraid of that.

If you rotate your Gama FPs - the section / barrels / cap all seem like that

As Hari said, it is indeed the lighting. I'm afraid I'm strictly an amateur photographer with limited knowledge of lighting, etc.

Here you go. Some photos of the Gama Airborne Large and the ASA Athlete both capped and posted. Also, a couple of pics comparing the two to the Gama Airborne (Standard), a LAMY AL-STAR and a Kaweco Sport.

Both capped and posted, the ASA Athlete is a substantial pen.

There's nothing wrong with your pictures - they do show the pens very clearly, and I especially like the ones with the two Airbornes and the Athlete. Puts them all in perspective - right now I have a regular (small) Airborne here, a big one coming, and two Athletes also on their merry way to me. I like the small Airborne, and I expect to like its bigger brother as much, and I also have great expectations of the Athlete. I hope to have them very soon...

Did your bigger Airborne come? I could not resist and ordered one as well. Today my brown mottled large Airborne with the Schmidt nib and converter arrived. I am getting to know mine but my first impression is that this is an excellent pen. The Schmidt parts work very well and the ebonite of the pen is very nice. We are going into winter here so some of the eyedropper pens will have to be cleaned until it warms up again. This Airborne will be able to take the temperature changes better. Now Gem has to make a pen that takes a Con-70.

My Airborne is still in transit, but the two Athletes arrived. I picked them up at the office last week and have been using them every day. While tall they are not very wide so they are not "big" pens, and I am finding their proportions very very nice. I also like the big nibs they're fitted with.

And being in the tropics, eyedroppers work the same all year - no worries about the season... :)

I think one of you should post a separate review of the Airborne with the Schmidt nib.

who needs a con70 when you have ED? :)
