Inky T O D - Do You Ever Buy Inks That Are Really Similar?

The scary part is... I find those swatches quite different from each other.. as in REALLY different.

I guess that happens when you have 100+ bottles and you need to justify getting more..... "Is not the same, is a TOTALLY different reddish-burgundy-thingy...."... ;)

Looking at the written part (as opposed to the swabs), Oxblood and Rustic Brown look almost identical on my screen; Syrah is obviously different -- it's redder/pinker than the other two.

I have some inks which are similar (but different enough that I'm happy to have both) such as Yama-budo and BSiAR. And last fall I got a bunch of samples of burgundies and purplish-blacks last fall in what turned out to be a fruitless attempt to match the color and sheen of some gel pen ink on a thank you card I got from someone. But I found a lot of inks I really liked (Scabiosa, Noodler's Purple Heart) and some I'm waffling over (Diamine Merlot, De Atramentis Patchouli).

I also have a bunch of samples of black ink, for an ongoing project. Last year's subjects didn't perform all that well in their designated pens (Platinum Preppies set up as rollerball pens, but I just realized that I have to do something about the pens soon -- I only have about 3 weeks before picking the ones to be this year's contenders.... :headsmack:

well, now, if you purchase Noodler's Black Swan in Australian Roses, you'll be getting another deep purple ink (in case you already have that color group). Brian Goulet has posted a notice about the color change, and the old version is sold out.

My favorite is J. Herbin Rouge Opera. But I bought a bottle of Sailor Grenade because it's been discontinued and if I wait I will never know what the sheen is people talk about.

No, I don't. But I probably certainly would if I had more money and more space, or if I went through ink faster.

You got rid of the AG? I'd dump BM first, I never could enjoy the ink.

Didn't get rid of it, I love it; it's on holidays until myosotis runs out (not much left now).

I have a bottle of Kon-Peki and Edelstein Topaz.

Every now and then when I have both inks in different pens and go to refill them I have no clue which ink is in which pen!

Me too... I even got the two of them in the same order...

Thanks, that's great to know because I adore Topaz and also love Iroshizuku inks. I'm so excited by this!

If two colors are similar, or almost identical, as much as money concerns, I'll buy 'em and study the differences.
