Micro Review Of Bad Blue Heron

RPB

Hi all. Some thoughts of this ink. I have noticed that my Montblanc pens write a lot broader when using any ink other than MB ink. I was just using my Heritage with MB Royal Blue and it's a nice line. With the BBH it is thicker.

Thank you.

It always seem to be a different shade, line, thickness, wetness to me each day... :)

I love Bad Blue Heron, but it is a mysterious ink. Color, line width, etc. seem to change fairly significantly based on pen and paper. You might want to try a cheaper paper and see if the line width narrows. Cheaper paper will also likely brighten the ink some.

I like and hate my BBH. It's very finicky in what pens it'll write well for me in - more so than other Noodler's ink. Also, I'm used to the chemical smell overall, but BBH stinks badly to my nose. The color has grown on me. I'll use it here and there (I filled a cheapo Preppy with it to have it around) but it's honestly no contest to Bad Belted Kingfisher which is my favorite ink - beautiful color and acts so well in most pens.

Being in the UK, the only place I found to buy it only had the BBH in stock! LOL. Well apart from the Black and I don't want Black.

I was really after the Prime of the Commons colour from Purepens but they are struggling to get a hold of Noodlers for more stock of any of the inks.

I do have so say that I have never seen an ink bottle so full either. I opened it and the ink really was just below the lip of the bottle! Unreal.

RPB - I've purchased a few noodler's bottles (1oz, 3oz, and 4.5oz droppers) - all were 'full' but you are right. I noticed BBH and BBK SUPER full to the point I splattered some knowing full well Noodler's are very full. I'm sorry you can't obtain BBK, if you can in some way, I'd suggest it. Excellent ink.

Thanks for that photo. That is the same as what i get with the BBH. Not what I would expect on Tomoe River paper though really.

At the moment i have washed my pen out and am using MB Royal Blue again. For now i'm not using the BBH with my Heritage pen.

Your writing with the 1.1mm is nice. That looks good using that nib. I actually tried some x-feather myself and sent it back as I was not impressed at all with it. Weird as it is supposedly designed not to feather at all. lol.

Your welcome. I should say that the Lamy nib was self-ground to give a crisper line, so that isn't a standard 1.1mm. And yeah X feather is another mystery. With normal nibs it doesn't seem to be that great but in flex nibs and dips pens it really does hold together amazingly well.

Nice review, thanks for sharing your thoughts on BBH.

I myself like Bad Belted Kingfisher better. Both the color and behavior of the ink. I found BBK to be better behaved than BBH and BGG from the Warden's series.

So many inks, so little time...
