Toning B&w Photos With Fp Ink

I have no idea where this should go...so we'll start here.

 

I recently took a darkroom photo class and during the course of it, we did some print toning. And I was wondering if anyone had tried using FP ink as a toner?

 

What have your experiences been?

 

I have not logged enough hours in the darkroom to have a portfolio with which to experiment, so I figured that I would ask y'all.

Was thinking of putting older FP inks to good use...

Not sure if the ink will soak in if you are using RC (resin coated) paper. If you are using FB (fiber based) paper, you might have a chance. I've only done toning the silver way once and that was during a workshop. I have not done toning since. I have no darkroom. My printing process is done in tungsten room light (it is considered to be an alternate process and you would not have done it in your course).

A 5-10min water soak of RC paper will allow the paper to take sepia tone. Given what you say, it looks like FP ink might work. The slightly acidic nature of FP ink would also help. Have yet to use fiber paper, but will give it a go.

 

Have not done tungsten room light processing yet either...Still learning the basics and experimenting.
