That's punny!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I used to live/work on a small (very small, 1km x 300m) island where the previous inhabitants had buried their dead in amongst the house posts, as there was no other flat land. The graves were marked with a different coloured sand, so if you were digging post holes for a new house, and you came across bright yellow sand, you knew that was Great Aunt Mabel, and moved your house a couple of metres sideways.

By the time I came to be there, there were hundreds of graves, most of them unmapped. And of course, there were ghosts. After you turned the generator off, and the place went silent, *dead* silent, some of the previous inhabitants would come out for a midnight stroll. It must be noted, though, that the only people who saw them had at least 6 cans of beer or equivalent inside them.

Sorry, I can't draw, so this has to be my ghostly contribution...

I got my job there because of them, so I was always grateful to them.

The previous incumbent had grown up on R.M Ballantyne's Coral Island.

However, when he spent the first night there, and turned off the generator, and it all went very quiet, and if anything happened, he had to fix it himself, he was responsible, and then he remembered the stories of the ghosts. He resigned the next morning.

For me, it was returning to my childhood, and I was in heaven. The quiet lapping of the sea virtually at my doorstop, the fish occasionally jumping, Gina, the island dog, sleeping at the head of my bed, outside, but only separated by flywire and letting loose with her lethal flatulence (ok, that wasn't so good, but the rest was).

Google maps has added Pack-man game mode to the maps.

Here is a nice looking neighborhood in Las Vagas.

Amberlea, look out the window, you might see Inky run by!!!

That was on the news today here. Although what the ghosts would make of Pittsburgh's street system is anybody's guess. After all, we have streets that run parallel (till they cross), fiveway intersections, streets that stop and restart (sometimes on the other side of a ravine, sometimes not...) and roadways (aka named "streets") that are actually staircases! And there's the "belt" system -- some of which don't go all the way around: to this day I'd swear on a stack of Bibles that the sign said "Green Belt Ends -- Welcome to the Yellow Belt"....

Then there's the infamous intersection of Beechwood Blvd and Monitor Street. Not of course, to be confused with the intersection of Beechwood and Monitor. *OR* the intersection of Beechwood and Monitor.... (Yes, they intersect at three different points. It's a 'Burgh thing. Don't ask.)

Because of course it's Pittsburgh -- and the shortest distance between two points is under construction....

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

PS: Directions invariably will include a phrase to the tune of "turn left where the Isaly's used to be". Sometimes by people who aren't natives, and never heard of Isaly's -- let alone know where it used to be.... Because natives will not cross a river. Honestly. We've had that happen. That's also a 'Burgh thing.... (Partly cultural: make it really easy to get to the mills and really hard to get from one neighborhood to another so the new immigrants won't find out the last batch all got fired for wanting to unionize: so bring in a new ethnic group, start a new neighborhood, give them their own language newspaper and their own little ethnic churches, and an easy route to the mills....)

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."
