A Few Ghosts....

And it seems to me that people would take them much more seriously if their owners didn't trim their fur into those bizarre shapes! Their particular type of fur is there for a reason...

However, the common shape (with a lot of fur around the chest) is also there for a reason, to keep the original hunting dogs' chests warm, while letting the dog run unimpeded. I'm not too sure about the pompoms on the head and tail, though. Perhaps someone who knows more can chime in???

My brother in law's wife had considered showing their standard poodle at one point, I think (they got the dog from a breeder, so it had papers). She investigated the "poodle cut" (not the really crazy ones, just what you think of for poodles, with the pom pom at the ankles and such) and discovered that there was originally a reason for that -- the dogs were originally water/hunting dogs (for stuff like retrieving, IIRC) and the clipping was designed to facilitate that but still protect parts of the dog's anatomy such as the head and ankles. Show dogs just have that cut accentuated to the extreme.

In the end they decided not to show the dog, and just keep her as a pet.

Not a poodle owner, but a dog owner, and can't resist in having a word in:

I am sure that if you had a chance to make the acquaintance of a poodle and its owner who went for the more decorative cuts, you would realise that a poodle has an attitude and, like a human, really likes to show off how proud he is to have had his decorative trim.

Poodles are very intelligent - a friend of mine who used to be into working dogs, obedience and all that goes with it was pretty upset when he was beaten by a poodle that took first place!

Of course, any dog lover would tell you that, since the dog has papers, show him the way to the nearest train station and wish him luck. ;)

Since the canine liberation movement of the late 60ies, Poodles won the right to dress any way they want and still be respected for their minds.

You go girl! :D

Pretty well every poodle I've seen in Aus. has been given a fairly short haircut all over because of the hot weather.

I must say that a poodle was the only dog to stare down my (now well and truly passed away) rottweiler-eating, mastiff-chasing mother cat.

Poodles are also known to be fond of giving inky rides, as well...

A difference in parenting style.

My niece (age 2) pulled up a foot stool and climbed aboard her beloved dog, Cracker. Cracker (picture to follow) is a mere 201 lbs. She was able to ride Cracker half way across the house before sliding off. (She was riding bare back). My sister-in-law was "terrified" and "watched in horror", my ex-husband and I were racing for our cameras.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Avoid commenting on the hair and say how beautiful the shoes are?

My hair is just ...out of control 90% of the time and I leave it long....lol! Humidity and wind are NOT my friends.

So, what's your point?

(Mine is a flexible F.)
