@inkstainedruth @bsenn Thank you for these replies. I will investigate those links.

 

I wasn't able to remove the nib or the barrel, so I soaked the nib in room-temperature distilled water. That worked on the nib, and I was able to unscrew it. I am still trying to figure out how to remove the barrel.

 

Thus far, I have been very gentle with the lever. I tend to man-handle things, and I did not want to damage it. But I watched a video yesterday, and at least I have an idea of how the lever and ink sac work.

 

More to learn. More to do. Gotta buy some ink, I guess.  :)

 

 

P.S. So, is my pen considered a "vintage" Esterbrook?

Nice pen!  Looks to be a late '40s or early '50s model, so it's very vintage.  How long is it? It looks like a J from the photos.   The 9461 nib is one of my favorites.

 

The barrel is a press-fit, so you would need a little gentle heat, and some finesse, to get it off smoothly.
