Inky T O D - Inks That Are Just Plain Weird

The weirdest ink I've used has been Noodler's Blue Nosed Bear. I love the color of it when I get can it to write without the blue "halo" that feathers out.

Magic Alchemist - patchouli. I used it in my MB 149 B nib at work and got to a point where I had a headache and had to stop using it. I also have the Magic Dragon one.

I sort of fail to understand why anyone thought Noodler's Rome Burning was a good idea.

+ 1 on that. I've taken to referring to RB as "the dog and pony show" ink. Yeah, it changes color when wet. But really, who cares (other than for the transitory amusement factor of Nathan having taken on the challenge)?

And I've tried the "regular" D'A Patchouli. Loved the color. Hated the scent -- it smells musty, like someone's damp basement. Not like patchouli at all, which was quite disappointing: I have a custom perfume that I had made up for me that includes both lavender and patchouli (as well as a couple of other scents) and thought it would be quite fun to have an ink that mimicked that to some extent. Alas -- it was not to be....

This thread deserves revival. I vote for two inks.

 

The Sailor Pen and Message Cigar ink that has a few reviews up now is my favorite ink, but weird as all get out. Goes on green, shades to brown, and sheens matte red. Awesome.

 

Secondly, Montblanc Leonardo Red Chalk is amazing and weird. It actually looks like chalk when dried, it kinda messes with my head to watch it dry on the page.

Since originally posting to this thread I've found another ink that definitely falls into the category of "weird": Noodler's Whaleman's Sepia.

The stuff is a great color. But it would not flow, no matter *what* pen I put it in. It clung to the sides of converters and sacs as if for dear life. Really disappointing ink, in that regard. Worked better once it got diluted with distilled water. But the strangest part is that it didn't seem to have the same issue when it was still in the sample vial.

It may depend on the batch. I have deA Patchouli and I absolutely, positively love it. Yes, it may smell like "hippie" (though no hippie I ever met smelled that good -- ) , but both the scent and color are flawless to me.

 

All depends on those wacky personal tastes...

For me the weirdest --and least useful or interesting ink of all is J. Herbin's Rouille d'Ancre (Rusty Anchor). I do not understand what the point was, or what they were going for. As a swab wash it does give a kind of pinky caucasian flesh color, but that's about it. Can't quite get my head wrapped around this one...
