Mb Voltaire (If It Looks Too Good To Be True...)

Somebody nipped in at the last minute and got it for $512,which isn't a bad price for its condition, and seemingly no box and papers? Enough people seemed to think it genuine.

True...wasn't me unfortunately. :(

Odd thing is that while I was researching prices for this Voltaire, I discovered that the exact same pen was sold before at $610; see here and here. Since the chances of the same seller having 2 of the exact same WE are pretty slim, I think the seller might have relisted it either because the buyer didn't pay or because he/she figured that they could get more the 2nd time around. If that was the case, I guess that didn't work out quite the way the seller expected... ;)

That sounds a little odd. :o

you have to sing it "A - dri - atic" :) I wonder how many out here have Cheers to thank for their primary source of knowledge of Albania?

Just a hunch, but I think Coach was really stretching to come up with that mnemonic song lyric...

And far more memorable than the Potsie-written one for the pulmonary system.

There's another one out there with your name on it, for a great price, someday.

Only an opinion, but to me it would be more likely that the buyer maybe didn't pay. If the seller had cancelled to re-list I think they may have gone BIN or put a reserve on it

something to note... if I were to have won this, I would ask the seller to send me a picture of the pen with a hand written note with my name next to the pen... this way you know this person in Albania actually has the pen and is not a picture thief. this is something I have done in the past with other items. I hate buying stuff over ebay, last two pens I got from a dealer both didn't write and had to be sent out...

That's good advice - thanks for sharing!

What if the picture thief of a seller had written your name using another pen? Maybe that was why you got 2 pens which didn't write well? How about asking for a video of the pen being used to write your name? Too much to ask?

You can't win if the other side is dishonest. All you can do is use your common sense and instinct and if something doesn't smell/feel/sound/taste right, bail out immediately.

  • 2 weeks later...

Sorry to resurrect a dormant thread, but the same guy in Albania is selling yet another Voltaire; see this eBay listing.

After seeing the same pen sold 3X over, I have to start wondering if there's some factory in Albania that's cranking these out...
