Which One Will Be Your Next Fountain Pen ?

Recommended Posts

I'm in the long, long queue for a Scriptorium. Just 5 more months to go... er, yay!

When it arrives I shall have to get rid of some of the less favoured pens. Probably the TWSBI 580AL and the Ranga 4C.

Mind you, I have been jonesing for a Waterman 52 with a fine/extra fine flexible nib. Unfortunately nobody wants to aid me in this quest (for below silly prices that is), so I doubt this will be a satisfied quest at any time soon, alas.

I'd like a vintage Omas of some sort, but the problem is deciding which sort!

Thinking of getting myself a new fountain pen on my birthday, something vintage, with some history, maybe with a bit of flex in the nib. Right now I'm looking towards getting myself a Parker 51, an Esterbrook J, or some vintage Sheaffer out there like a Touchdown. I have all but modern pens at the moment, and it feels like it's time to dip my feet in to the world of vintage pens.

Pens: TWSBI Eco Black (F), Jinhao X450 Red/Black (M), Platinum Preppy 03 (F) - Eyedropper, Pilot Metropolitan Black/Plain (M)

Inks: Diamine Oxblood, Waterman Inspired Blue, Noodler's General of the Armies, Pilot Namiki Black

Notebooks: Two Rhodia Classic spiralbound A5, one A4 Staples M notebook, and some cheap dollarstore notebooks I have lying around.

Due to the recent developments regarding OMAS, I went ahead and snatched a Milord Liquid Green with a fine nib. Should be here soon :)

The 61 is here, it's a lovely dark gray, and I'm going to have a bit of a job flushing it since it's the capillary fill, but it looks like it should be just lovely.

I have ordered a Vanishing Point Raden Minamo, and cannot wait! Should be here in a week or two from Japan.

Just got a Sheaffer Crest Vac-Fil with that lovely two-tone Triumph nib in the mail. It's gorgeous. :)

Have a Pelikan M150 (green & black) fine nib on its way from the land of my forefathers (England) that I won in an ebay auction.

I think my next one will be the Montblanc Rouge et Noir.

I'd get the Namiki Emperor that Sonic just reviewed. It's a beautiful pen but it kills me that it's an eyedropper

None of this is going to happen any time soon, but I'd like to buy a Pelikan Souverän (M600) at some point - my da has one and as much as I loathe the way he uses it to show off, it is a very beautiful, well-writing pen.

On a slightly more short-term note, a vintage Esterbrook would be nice; some of them are quite interesting and (for the most part) affordable.
If I can actually convince myself to deal with ebay, sigh.

I also remembered that my cruddy semi-local art supply store also (read as: mainly) sells stationary (including pens), and they do a much better job with that than they do with their art stuff (unfortunately), so I might have a look at what I can find there, too. I know it's mostly Lamy (tons of Safari, AL-Star and Logo, there, but I also saw the CP1) and the rest is probably wildly expensive, but having a closer look won't hurt.

My next fountain pen, which is coming in the mail, will be a Blue-Black-Silver Pelikan M805. This should be my last purchase for quite some times. This was my "Holy Grail" pen! :)

Nice one! :)

I would like one of those myself, but they're way out of my budget.... :(

I won a bid on ebay for $275 USD. Brand new from a store in Italy.

This will be my most expensive pen thus far.

Just clicked the "Buy Now" button for a Pilot Custom 74 with a Soft Fine Medium nib. I swore I wouldn't get another black pen (except for the upcoming Montblanc - because it's the right classic thing to do) but alas it's the only way to get a soft nib on a 74 - which I'm anxious to try out. Sadly the shipping from Japan, if it's similar to my 3776, will take about 3 weeks to get the pen to my doorstep.

Hi everyone,

Last Thursday I ordered, from Tokyo Fountain Pen Quill, a Urushi lacquered Pilot Custom 845 with an FA nib. The pen is black ebonite with gold trim and three coats of lacquer. tracking the pen tells me it is at New York and will be delivered early next week.
