Cyber, 'tis time for you to organize a Canadian adventure.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

LOL... I have more than a couple of Akkerman group buys under my belt... We might need another one, yes...

No, I am asking.. cause I order one bottle for my sweetheart in the US. Last time I visit, I brought him my Pulchri Pink... his 6 years old little girl fell in love with it.

I couldn't part with my Shocking Blue... (I mean .... he is my sweetheart and all, but Akkerman ink.. is well, Akkerman ink..)... so I did the next best thing, and added myself to this group buy. He will get a shocking blue of his own. :D

OOOOH! That will mean I can try colors I opted out of in the group buy (because I could only afford so many bottles initially). I can't wait!

  • 2 weeks later...

I received a box yesterday from Paul at Akkerman in response to the ink mess situation from some leaking bottles in the previous shipment. He more than remedied the situation. His customer service is excellent and I would highly recommend doing business with him.

I know Paul.. and his Customer Service skills are legendary. I need to add that your "customer service skills" are not too shabby. ;)

Thanks so much Jared for all your efforts in helping and spreading Akkerman love.

Yes Jared, a huge thanks for making it possible for us to buy these difficult to find inks at a good price!

I'm just so excited about this! I can't wait (it's still 2-1/2 weeks away and I'm about jumping out of my skin with anticipation)!

I just hope I like the colors I picked....

I've dealt with Paul too. He emailed me after my order arrived to check that everything was intact. Never had a merchant do that before.

I found out what the problem was with the leaky Akkerman 60ml ink bottles. In two of these, the glass lip dips and does not form a proper seal with the lid. I've notified Paul & sent photos, in case he wants to check his inventory for similar problems.

Below, in the #10 IJzer-Galnoten Bliew/Zweig (Iron Gall), the glass dips, but the threads seal the top so I suspect that leaking is only found when there is a significant change in air pressure, such as an airline flight. I haven't had any problems with leaking since I cleaned it up after receiving it in the original shipment.

The #5 Shocking Blue, however, is much worse off. Not only is there a dip in the lip of the glass, but the top thread has a gap, which allowed the ink to spill all over my hand every time I opened the bottle. I have since decanted the remaining ink (about 45 of original 60ml) into another bottle as this Akkerman bottle will not hold ink without making a mess. I have filled the bottle with water for use as a demonstrator, and water is much easier to clean up.

Akkerman has replaced these bottles, and now I've got the extra #10 with the bad seal for sale for $15. I won't ship it as the air pressure will cause a mess with the ink, but it should work fine on a desktop. I'll be glad to sell it to anyone who plans to attend the DC Supershow the weekend of Aug 7 - 9.

Paul has assured me that they will "double check the bottles in the future" to prevent this from happening again.

The Akkerman Ink Group Buy was a great success. Vanness Pens was at the show selling Akkerman inks starting Friday, and sold out of #11 Turquoise almost immediately, followed by #5 Shocking Blue, then #23 & #26. I believe they brought 400 bottles, and appeared to be down to about 100 bottles when I left early Saturday afternoon. They expected to be sold out before the end of the show today.

I was able to sample all of the Akkerman inks at the Ink Testing Table thanks to Vanness Pens, who provided the samples. I'll save discussion of that with my photos & scans for another post.

I'm very glad I grabbed my bottle of #26 early on during the day yesterday. It pairs wonderfully with my emerald green Vacumatic.
