Leather Covers For Field Notes Notebooks?

Recommended Posts

Just noticed that the Doane Paper company is selling some very attractive notebook covers. A little more expensive, but they look nice. http://doanepaper.bigcartel.com/product/winter-session-dp-utility-notebook-cover

I recently got a Field Notes size leather cover from Gfeller, and as many have noted, the quality is high. The kip leather is very flexible and soft

I just bought one of Doane's Large version. It is nice looking and I like the paper. The cover may lack some of the finer quality of the hand-made items in this thread.

Hi dmourati

Please don't take this the wrong way but is that price in that link for a notebook cover or is there a pen case as well because it seems very expensive to me.

I must also confess that my own attempt has suffered a minor setback today, I was very happy with the inside in yellow and decided to dye the outside in oxblood unfortunately I had already made the holes for stitching as soon as the dye touched the leather I thought DOH ( insert expletive of choice).

I am sure that you don't need me to tell you that the lovely yellow interior had red dots all around the edges.

My solution was to dye the whole thing oxblood.

Sorry if I have hijacked this thread.

I got 2 from my63... Michael at a more reasonable price. High quality and excellent materials and workmanship. Usual disclaimers

apply, no affiliation, just a very satisfied customer.

Thanks Jim

I was not looking for business by the way I just wanted to see if I could make a thin cover.

I will put the finished cover on this thread

Men A. Werro. He hangs out at the Saddleback Leather Werk Fan group on facebook. He does some awesome stuff.

I wish more covers came with a pen-loop-close style.

Here is the failure I wanted to make a thin cover with an oxblood outside and a yellow inside in kip leather.

My skills with the dye let me down so the colour is now mahogany in and out

It is a success in the fact that it is actually thinner than the two notebooks it was designed to hold it measures 7 mm with out the notebooks inside

Thanks

Michael

Mistake or no, I love the color combo between the leather and the stitching.

The colour may not have gone on as I expected however I really do like the effect.

If you look closely you can see I did get three notebooks in there it would require some Midori type elastic to keep it there.

  • 5 weeks later...

i use a Gfellar one. Field Notes itself of course, offers 2 different leather cover designs themselves.

I recently found the site called "etsy"(www.etsy.com). Many talented craftsmen sell very nice looking covers for field note, Moleskine Cahier, etc. Browse "Home & Living" from left side list, then click "Stationery & Party", then "Journals & notepads".
