I was thinking that blue plastic folder would be very cool in a leather form, maybe a soft-ish thin leather with a magnetic clasp? Any leather workers reading this topic?

I have a folio from Saddleback Leather that will most likely outlast me, but they are definitely not cheap. Investment of a lifetime though.

Most of my letters are written at home, but I do carry a small organiser for when I feel like penning a letter while at work.

It is a no name organiser, purchased it from eBay a couple of years back, and removed the binder insert.

It holds;

  • Envelopes
  • Return address labels
  • Pre-paid postcard
  • Notebook (field notes)
  • Pilot 78G (fine nib)
  • Pack of Pilot black carts
  • Original Crown Mill Pure Cotton tablet
  • El Cheapo A5 lined pad
  • Couple of business cards
  • A small plastic bag containing few airmail stickers, and an international and a local stamp

Letter writing was the reason I got into FPs thirty-five years ago, in my teens. It's still the way I think of using my FPs, in reverie, even though I spend much more hands-on time with my FPs at work.

I always have a good FP with me. After that, I use whatever paper is handy, and often go out of my way to use the back of something random -- just because it's fun to receive a mystery in the mail.

When I'm at my desk, at home, I'm likely to use either Rhodia or a few sheets from my collection of pilfered hotel stationery (not matching, nor matched with the pilfered hotel envelope).

I have about a dozen different purple inks. Letters almost always get one of those, as my epistolary prose is rather purple anyway.

Have fun. Anyone receiving any handmade writing on paper is going to be grateful...
