It is nice to find a place where all things FP is the theme. I love writing and sketching. I love notebooks, pens and cameras. I have a small collection of all of the above.

A few days ago I saw in a few blog sketches that looked very nice and the authors were sketching with fountain pens. I frantically looked for two I had been given as a gift a long time ago and I stopped using because I used to mess up places in the house with the ink. Now I am finding more information to be able to "activate" them back into my tools. I will be posting the two photos to identify what kind of converter or cartridges I can buy and from whom to be able to sketch and write with them. They have sentimental value, so there is another FP in my future and I hope all the information to be able to choose well will be found on this forum. BTW: I also ordered a Lamy Safari for sketching which should be on my hands soon and I am looking into a few cheap FP for that purpose only.

The photos I post here are of these gift fountain Pens of great sentimental value. Nothing fancy, just FP given by people I love and care for, so they are more important than a $200 pen.

Please let me know how can I find cartridges and converters if you know. Pierre Cardin will be for sketching/drawing. The one with our ID for writing, just because I like the design.

Well, i am sure I will enjoy the forum and I hope I can participate often as I gain some experience.

Welcme, Lamyrada !

Did you put these pens away, without thorough cleaning ? If so, that's the first step in recovery. Dried ink is the enemy.

After that, keeping them clean is very simple.

Thanks for the welcomes! I fear i did not clean them properly. Was not into them at the time and when i was out of cartridges i just put them away like that.

I saw a video on cleaning with water and a drop of dish washer cleaner. Hope that works and is a viable method, is it! If they are nopt usable, i will keep them for their sentimental value anyway. I love the designs and colors.

If there any better method to clean them, let me know! Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the forums, Lamyrada! :W2FPN: You have some gorgeous pens! Yeah, pen maintenance is one of those things that I had to learn the hard way. Luckily, the mistakes were with two fountain pens that weren't as precious nor sentimental, but still it makes one anxious when a fountain pen is not functioning quite right. The cheap pen I used to practice with everyday is the Jinhao 601 (about $5-11 with free shipping, from ebay or Amazon). The second fountain pen I practiced with was one that Dad found that he had gifted to my brother a while back (which, alas, was not taken care of too well). It was one of those generic ones you can find in either Staples or Office Max.

But...I have to admit, if you are working on a project that you will be working on more than an hour on, you probably should use a higher quality pen. I noticed that I have more hand fatigue (and finger digit irritation) with the cheaper pens than with my more pricey pen. Not sure if it is the construction of the pen, the weight of the pen, or some combination of a whole bunch of other things, but it so makes a difference.

Well, I ordered a few $10-25 pens to practice after looking at tons of videos and reading a few threads here. Anticiating that I will be very enthisiastic again as I was before, I am looking at what would be the next step. I have loked at the review and sample writing with a Namiki Falcon and liked it. If you or anyone have a suggestion for another pen on the price range of the Falcon, let me know; I am listening.

Hello and welcome from a fellow (part-time) Floridian. I'm still a noob myself but I have to say that everyone here is great and super helpful. What part of the peninsula are you from?

The ink spent years drying and clogging your pens. A few patient days of correction is not too much to ask. Drop the nib and section

part into room temp water for a few hours. Then, rinse. Repeat until nothing oozes out to discolor the soak water. Shake dry. and let

the nib rest in contact with a dry paper towel to "wick" out residual water.

This is what I use for maintenance flushing. I trim the tip in small increments, until it fits firmly over the section. Slowly push room temp

water for 30 seconds, in each direction. Then, dry as above.

Are there any names on your pens, to indicate the brand ?
