Location Of Vintage Pens

A quick question gentlefolk. I notice in the listings on the Bay of E that quite a few pens are offered from some interesting places - Uruguay, Argentina and Turkey spring to mind, though there are others. So, are sales from these less mainstream places largely genuine or not? Or is it all just a big gamble?

Okay, that was two questions when I only promised one. Sue me!

There are people specialized in selling fountain pens all over- in Romania for instance, there`s me.

Concerning vintage pens coming from places like Turkey and Thailand, yes, it`s a gamble, but then again most ebay sales are the same.

I was bothered after winning a "functional" parker 51 from Thailand because the pen had a bent nib and didn`t write, while being obvious that the seller knew this- he sold mostly vintage fountain pens. Because it was too expensive to ship it back, i settled for a partial refund.

Then again, i once received a distroyed parker slimfold from UK which was described as being perfectly fine.

So again, the lesson it that on ebay there are no guarantees . The best way of doing it is to buy from people you know, and it is safer to buy from places like FPN.

Its easy to pass on personal prejudices even when borne out of experience. As a seller and a buyer on eBay I have had so many issues in dealing with any country in South America, China, Thailand and Hong Kong and Sheffield and, surpisingly, Canada has been a pain but I forgive the place on account of Joni Mitchel.

So those countries and Sheffield are a big gamble that I wouldnt take again, as a buyer or seller.
