I still see those machines for sale occasionally.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

If it were an ink sample machine, it could run weekly features. Diamine one week, J Herbin the next, Mont Blanc, etc

Then it could go to blues, greens, reds. Seasonally themed colors when appropriate. That way you can dream of this vending ink machine to try inks. Then go to your favorite store and buy the ones you want.

I used one drink vending machine (plastic bottles) that was very good at mechanically moving to the row and getting the bottle gently down. You don't want a carbonated beverage shower mess every purchase.

I guess the trouble is if such ink machines were out there, they would end up in the same places with brick and mortar stores. My B&M store is 40-45 minutes by car. Not bad, but click and buy from phone or computer is so incredibly easy.

... I am 100% certain that I'd be more likely to buy ink than a salad from a vending machine. Buying food from machines has always grossed me out just a bit ;)

+1 Especially food that is supposed to be fresh. No to fruit, salad, coffee, and sandwiches.

In a heartbeat I'd buy ink. Think about it - the Ink Redbox!

Impulse control issues, anyone?

I suppose a machine that dispensed standard international size cartridges in a range of colours would be relatively straightforward. However, for those of us who use Parker 61 capillary fill pens, I can just imagine the screen saying, "Please wait 5 days while we flush your pen"

Yesterday is history.

Tomorrow is a mystery.

Today is a gift.

That's why it's called the present

This will be my type of vending machine for inks... Just highly modified kudos if it supports something in the line of hong kong's octopus card or Japan's train pass cards

  • 3 years later...

If it was for standard international size cartridges, also have a vending machine with Jinhao sharks in case you forgot your fountain pen. And cheap but reliable mechanical pencils as well (plus lead).

Lol, buying from Amazon...that's pretty much the case.
Though if there were an actual standing vending machine with inks in it, I would be overjoyed to be able to plop actual dollars into it and receive an ink immediately instead of waiting days.
I guess I could just go to the Pen shop (Berts Inkwell or Penboutique) but that's an hours drive away at least.

What you said!  👍🏻

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

The image had gotten lost so I reuploaded the antique I found.  I think we could put the shark pens in it instead of ballpoints.

That Vendorama....wants it!

I don't see why I wouldn't--imagine what kind of world it would be if one saw a vending machine for inks on, say, a train platform!

In fact, I'd love to have an ink vending machine in my house, just for me. But maybe more like those choose-your-own-soda mix vending machines (which I find otherwise fairly gross). But with mixable inks instead of cherry and vanilla flavored coke. Every day, a different blend. Gimme!

I pictured it as if you forgot your stuff before school. I found that really helpful that I could get them when I was in middle school or college. Now doing college from home I don't have that issue.
