Inspection Nib

Hi all

I was just wondering how we can evaluate a nib on a few parameters:

I just got a new pen , which is a very smooth writer but hard startup pen

Looking at the nib against light , i cannot see a fussure or slit.Does this say someting ?

Another issue that the nib cracks when putting the nib on paper and turning it slightly to the left and right.

Could applying a slit paper between the tines a solution for the hard starter?

Hi Arran,

There should be a gap of 0.02/0.025 mm between the nib tines at the nib point.

i expect the tine points are touching and rubbing against each other during writing , triggering the cracking sound.

The tines can be opened by pushing the nib gently down

Using a 2500 grit mylar sheet you could also enlarge the nib tine opening and solve the problem.

You are always welcome for a visit and i'll do it for you !
