Inky T O D - Orange Ink - Do You Use It? When? Which Ink?

It goes really well with some turquoise inks also. I use it a lot next to Iroshizuku Ku-Jaku and it looks great! (Tried to attach a scan to illustrate this, but the colours are just not popping off on the scan like they do in real life, so am not bothering...).

Indeed. Diamine Pumpkin/Pelikan Topaz make a good tandem.

I second previous posts, that orange ink lacks contrast & needs B nibs.

I like EF to F nibs and the story ends there.

Everything is impermanent.

I never thought I would use an orange ink. I received some Diamine Coral in the Ink Drop and I find myself loving it. I've used it in a letter and a card so far. Other than that, I'm not sure of what my long term use will be. Probably just for fun.

Does anybody know of an ink that is close to skin color? We are all basically a shade of light or dark orange, but I haven't found an ink that would make a good skin color for drawing.

Yes, I love Apache Sunset and Diamine Coral. I use them for journaling, drawing, note-taking, casual correspondence.

I have Ancient Copper and Apache Sunset. I use the latter more these days. I love the shading it can provide with my Safrai's 1.5 nib for example.
I use it for highlighting, underlining in my college notes too!

Add whiteness of the whale ... or wait, add the other color to WoW.

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

I am rather obsessed with Noodler's Apache Sunset.

It's used to highlight points on my daily calendar, write out poetry when I need to hone my focus but also ....to draw & photograph. The properties of that particular ink are fascinating and it's a joy to use & explore.

An example of the variations of shade in that one ink: http://24.media.tumblr.com/960436e4622070cf983174c9af111405/tumblr_n5zyrvidwq1rib3ado1_1280.jpg

Wouldn't it be great if Nakaya used TWSBI piston fillers instead of Platinum cartridge converters?

I love orange inks and I use them all the time. My favourite, hands down, is Sailor Kin-mokusei, and I use it constantly. There are some others I've tried that I like quite a lot - Caran d'Ache Saffron (see below) & MB Ink of Joy being the top two - but I reach for Kin-mokusei at least 8 out of every 10 times I want an organce ink.

I use it for notes, journalling, letter writing, note taking, and writing stories in my notebooks. Pretty much everything, really. :D

Yu-yake is loaded in my Omas stub at the moment for fabulous shading. I write whatever I need to write in whatever color I prefer, so I've written checks with it in addition to signing papers, journalling, lists, whatever crosses my desk.

Loved Orange Indien until the EU regs messed with Herbin formulations and ruined them. Apache Sunset runs a little dry to my taste, but love the color/shading. Fuyu-gaki is another favorite for color and behavior. Haven't opened my bottle of Habanero yet.

Not an orange girl -- that is one color I just can't stand, and that includes for ink. But if I were, I would use it for journaling and general note-taking.

Ruth Morrisson aka inkstainedruth

same with me, until I saw the pics of the shading of Saffron. That's what got me. I use it in notes, even on some grading. My wet mediums are good enough for the shading, Clairefontaine loves it.

Private Reserve Orange Crush is readable, strong and has great shading. I use it for notes, thinking, anything really - just not on cream or ivory paper. It makes me feel happy so I often use it when I'm under workload pressure.

Well you guys did it to me.

I ordered a 60ml sac of Toucan orange.

I will probably use it for pen pal letters and my journal, since I can't think of what else to use it for.

I'm not sure if you're referring to my photo or not, but if you are, it's actually Caran d'Ache Saffron, another ink that is no longer available. It's part of the Colours of the Earth series that was discontinued last year. :(

Here's a shot of the lovely Kin-mokusei. Sam Capote did a comparison and said that Sailor Jentle Apricot is *very* close, so close you can't tell it apart by sight.

I don't own any orange inks, but lately have been wondering if I shouldn't get a bottle. I feel it may grow on me the same way purple did - another color I never imagined to have much use for and now regularly use for journaling.

Skrip Orange and Conway Stewart Orange (both discontinued, AFAIK) are great, pure oranges.
