Idea For Pen Cases

I'm not sure that this is the proper place to put this, however...as a knitter it occurred to me that the cases we use for the short, double pointed needles (that are used to make socks and mittens and such) would make great pen cases. Same sort of pocket for each set of needles that would fit a pen, and usually pretty decent protection. Here's a link to a selection of handmade ones:

and some photos of some of my pens in a very basic one that I have. Even my Collier (on the far left) and my Ranga Bamboo (far right) fit into it. Mine is isn't padded but I used it just for demo, many of those you will find are quilted and thus have more padding.

Last is a link to a seller (whom I do not know) who makes different sizes, from 16 to 36 pockets.

Thanks for pointing this out. I never caught on to the fact that these DPN holders look like pen cases.
Now if only I could get my DPNs off of WIPs so that I can actually put them into cases. ;)

I really like the idea of a pen case, but I still need something (for use while out and about) that gives me quick access to a pen without having to stop and take time to unroll it.

Ha! This is the story of my life, too.

Same here! Let me know if you find it. Or if you find a good design, even better: my fabric stash is not nearly as large as my yarn stash, but there's got to be enough around for a pen case. I don't normally need to carry a briefcase, but I have an old one from Lands End that I sometimes carry even when I don't need such a big bag, simply because it has six pen pockets, so I can reach in and pull out exactly the pen I want without even looking. I'd love something similar that could be transferred from bag to bag.

Nice! I use a makeup brush pouch from Ulta. It has enough room for my pens and a zippered pouch to keep extra ink, cartridges, and such in.

I bought a similar pouch and use it unrolled, with the top third folded back instead of front, lining my shoulder bag. Sort of like an additional layer, with pen pockets, of the purse. It's loose in there so when I change purses it comes out easily; and my pens are easily accessible & I always know where they are - when in my purse. And they go back in easy after use. Of course this is only for when I leave the house. But I am experimenting with a similar setup above my desk - a five pocket pen pouch hung open such that I just have to reach up and grab a pen. Only drawback is you never get to see the beauty of the pen roll design - it's always opened up. That's why this is still an experiment.

I love making stuff, I made a crocheted pen case with a cotton type yarn. I might make a little crochet bag for carrying ink bottles.
