Ink T O D - Chalky Ink, What Is Is It? Who Like It?

@ dragondazd -- I would not consider Noodler's 54th MA to be chalky (although it might be on some paper (like my checkbook register); OTOH, Noodler's Upper Ganges Blue is definitely chalky to my eye. Still trying to decide if it's worth springing for a bottle or not -- while I like the waterproofness, I'm sufficiently un-enamored of it otherwise. And I have enough inks that I use for writing checks that I like better -- Kung Te Cheng, El Lawrence and (of course) 54th MA (which appears to be the best behaved of any of the four -- I have it in an ebonite Konrad and I have had absolutely no issues with clogging or nib creep).

@ lapis -- I don't think of Diamine Denim as being a chalky ink; "not having sheen" does not necessarily equate with "chalky". Denim, IMO, is sort of middle ground (I just wish that it shaded a bit better).

I'm not keen on chalky inks in general, but I wouldn't dismiss them out of hand either. And it often is very paper dependent -- in my ink journal (which is one of those cheap Piccadilly sketch books from Barnes and Noble) Kung Te Cheng looked chalky; on better paper I can occasionally get sheen with it -- and this is from the SAME pen....

"It's very nice, but frankly, when I signed that list for a P-51, what I had in mind was a fountain pen."
