Cross Townsend/century Range

The Townsend is a solidly constructed, high-quality pen. I bought one and then another and then another and now I think I have at least ten. Each one writes reliably and smoothly, even those with the steel nibs rather than gold. I use them all.Yes, it is a large pen and some say it is unwieldy to write with the cap posted. This may be true, so don't post the cap. You then find that it is beautifully balanced and is one pen I can write with for hours without any fatigue (other than mental). I have medium to small hands.I have other pens but one or other Townsend is (almost) always with me.

+1 on this. The Townsend is an under rated pen in my view. I have the lapis and jade versions, the sterling silver and a black one. All gold nibs, all excellent writers and all very good value for money.

The nibs are nails (which I like). The BB has wonderful stubbish qualities. All are very smooth.

. The one downside to the Century is that there is no converter for it, but I just fill carts with a syringe.

My Cross Century 2 came with a converter. There is a converter listed on Cross's website.

The Cross Century 2 is a nice, light pen - it is a pleasure to use. The proprietary cartridge system is a bit of a pain though - in the UK Cross Cartridges are not as ubiquitous as international carts or Parkers.

My apologies. I should have specified. I was speaking of the Century classic for which there is no converter.

I have used all types of Cross Pens for over forty years and many other brands as well. I have had better, more consistent, long term results with Cross Pens than any other manufacturer. They tend to follow a philosophy of use, and have a lifetime warranty of repair or replacement. And, they have a wide selection of implements.

Proof is in the pudding.

Here we have a stock Townsend steel medium nib and Apogee 18K medium nib.

It doesnt take much pressure at all to get the tines to open up. Responsive!
