Help! Choosing A Twsbi Nib Width.

I plan to purchase a TWSBI Diamond 580, but I don't know which nib would be right for me.

Can you tell me which TWSBI width (fine/medium/broad) is closest to a LAMY FINE?

I have a Faber-Castell with a medium, but even that is finer than my Lamy fine. I have looked at Goulet's nib nook but I'm still not sure.

A Fine would be alright. I'm currently using it, and it sometimes seem as fine as Lamy's EF.

TWSBI fine is a little finer than a Lamy fine.

TWSBI fine is a little finer than a Lamy fine.

But the medium would be larger.

So you're going to have to settle for slightly thinner or slightly wider of a line. I have a medium and love it, but I also love Western mediums/broads. You'll probably want to go with the fine.

What about in comparison to the Lamy medium? I prefer broader nibs.

I haven't written with a Lamy medium in a while, but I wanna say they're close. If you like broader nibs, I don't think you'd be disappointed with the medium TWSBI nib. It's quite nice. However, I *did* buy a second one with a broad nib 'cos I wanted that option. Maybe you should get a medium one to start and buy finer or broader nib units as you desire.

It's a pretty broad medium. I have a Pelikan broad and on good paper you can barely tell the difference. On cheapo paper though, you can tell the Pelikan is more broad by a mile. I like broader nibs as well and am quite happy with my TWSBI M

I don't think I can buy a second nib unit. They're £18 each and I'm on a budget

Is there a difference between the 580 and 540 nib widths?

Xf. Imo twsbi nibs aren't as good as most other nibs of the same price

Kev

What other nibs/pens are better?

Pilot nibs are extremely nice, especially on the metropolitan, a 15 dollar pen. Lamy safari nibs are alright but still better than twsbi nibs, in my experience.

They're pretty much the same as Jowo nibs used on other pens, modulo a bit of tuning.
