Oh man that sucks. Hope you didn't get ink all over yourself, and that you can find the replacement parts for cheap.

Send it to Lamy for a new one......

Buy a shirt with a pocket, instead of using it like a Kaweco Sport that was designed for pants pocket carry.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

Except for the part involving your girlfriend, :D , I did this several times, in college. I put at least four Parker 45's into similar

condition. Save for spare parts, and get a new one. May you learn the lessons more quickly than did I.

I broke the plastic body of a Lamy Safari carrying it around in my pocket. I got it for free and just epoxyed the body back together. I bought another one anyway. Don't carry that one in my pocket and just leave them with my other designated desk pens (ones I don't want to carry around). I think the Kawaco is a great alternative. Japanese brand Ohto also makes a small cartridge only fountain pen for travel in pockets as well that is pretty good too. I got one for $20. I forgot the model name....

Edit: Found it- It is called the Tache. Costs $15 to $20 depending on where you buy it from. (Got mine from Kinokuniya Books in Seattle. $18 + tax as I recall)

Thank you all for your well-wishes. I actually have a replacement EDC coming to me (a Parker 45 Flighter) and am going to pass the Lamy onto someone who will appreciate it more than myself. I don't dislike it, but I really bought it because I wanted the ink the seller was offering with it.

Anyways, some great suggestions in here for replacements and repairs. I'll definitely look into some of these!

Just got home. Was playing at the park with girlfriend and her daughter. Took my Al-Star out and found that the threads were broken off, inside the barrel.

Gonna get some glue to put it back together, but I don't think I'll feel safe carrying it around anymore. Looks like I'll need a new EDC!

Yup. Pens don't belong in pants pockets.

My pen needs to be with me. Hard to play with a child while holding onto a pen the whole time like some weird, hairy, mulatto Bob Dole.

Well anything other than a cheap ballpoint anyways...

:P I know some say phones don't belong in pant pockets, so what good are they? Wallet? :P

If I'm out with some of my kids, they are all going into the case (even if I do bring them with me... IN DA CASE... lol)

Please inform me where one can buy a safe case in which to place one's kids while out and about...

Shirt pockets were invented @ 1895 for them newfangled fountain pens with slide on clips.

If you let others set your 'style' and don't have a shirt pocket....don't complain about breaking a pen in your pants pocket where it was not designed to be carried.

A Case for a Kid? :P lol

I just have a zipper case or my pen wrap, but since I usually have my camera bag with me (... man purse or whatever you'll call it), it's usually in the middle of that.

Though if the kid was small enough, could fit them into the camera bag (did that once for halloween with a newborn. :P not zipped up of course.)

There's also the vest pocket, but then where would the pocket watch go? (hrm, actually I think the pocket watch would still go in the side pocket, was often chained to the side., pen would still have an inside breast pocket) :P

At least in a shirt pocket, the fountain pens are less likely to leak than the ballpoints that needed pocket protectors.

Any proper pair of jeans has a pocket watch pocket. I never buy a pair with out....but then again, I have @15 pocket watches; seven pocket watch chains.

Well that works still for vests.

Pant's with out watch pockets do ok for watches if your chain is a bit long...it just don't droop properly. I just hate a non-droopy pocket watch chain.
