Boom. Broken Lamy.

Just got home. Was playing at the park with girlfriend and her daughter. Took my Al-Star out and found that the threads were broken off, inside the barrel.

Gonna get some glue to put it back together, but I don't think I'll feel safe carrying it around anymore. Looks like I'll need a new EDC!

If you absolutely want to fix the pen, I think you can order replacement parts from Lamy's website (or maybe send it in for repair), but it would probably be better to just upgrade to a new pen.

I thought the Lamy were like a tank (as one person said, their Safari was indestructible).

I thought so too! But the proof is in the pudding, eh? Lamy pudding.

I paid almost nothing for it. $30 for the pen, a bottle of Baystate Blue, 3/4 a bottle of Bulletproof Black, and a bunch of cleaning supplies. I'll keep this one around in its broken state, glued and used at home, I guess. I'll keep hoping for the perfect EDC.

What a bummer. Hopefully you don't have BSB all over your clothes...

You might want to look into a Kaweco AL Sport. It was designed to withstand the harsh environment of a pocket, and it's a thicker grade of aluminum. I've got its plastic little brother, and it's probably my best writer. I take it everywhere (the size helps with that too)

This might be of help. No affiliation, but almost ruined a fee the other day, so I'd done some research. Sorry to hear about the Lamy.

"Send it randomly to my street" ... wait what?

:P That would be something else, someone within 4 houses of you ends up with a lamy section, and wondering WTH is this?

It's no big deal. I'll live. Thanks for the link. Seems to be exclusive to Australia though. I'm in the US.

I got the pen cheap. I'll be alright. And I'll have more pens. I'll glue it until I can rationalize spending money on the replacement part that Rumrunner88 suggested.

Especially seeing as there would be no name per se on the address.

I thought bout getting a Safari... but oddly just for the ability to compare it to the Jinhao 599 I'll be getting soon enough. Just curious how true the 'like a tank' the Safaris are despite being plastic.

I had the same problem with my Al Star once upon a time. $25 to Lamy got me the entire section, feed and new nib pre-installed. It came out of the package and into the barrell... Working like a charm ever since.

The Safaris were never really intended to be pants carry pens...

Lol. I found that out the hard way!

Even if they were, I'd be too paranoid to use them in a jeans pocket unless it was just to go from one room to another. If I'm out with some of my kids, they are all going into the case (even if I do bring them with me... IN DA CASE... lol)

I wonder if there's something closer to the United States for that.

That's too bad :o , I never feel comfortable carrying most of my pens in my pant pocket for fear of the same. The one exception is my Jinhao 159, it's so solid my femur would probably snap first.

I concur, though it is possible to screw up the threads on the cap a little so that it's not quite so easy to cap/uncap the pen. But least that won't hurt the section/grip/nib.
