Hi,

I have 11 total in my collection and it is staying that way permanently, so I voted 1-10. smile.gif

My shop owns a certain number for testing and has lots of stuff for sale. So I didn't count that in.

Dillon

Well, I have about 27 (since I'm a twin, I'm counting my bro's too.) Most of them are vintage, but I have some new ones. I plan to grow my collection, not necessarily just keep the ones I use. I plan on collecting ones that are usable, but that doesn't mean I will use them. I just think its fun getting them when they are broken and fixing them up, then just sit down by your collection and go "ahhh..." I really just admire my pens since I am one of the only kids at my school that knows what a FP is.

Sheaffer all the way!

Speaking of acquiring more pens, for those people trolling eBay for pen bargains, have you noticed that pen auctions have been tending to close at higher prices as of late?  In the arena of pens I tend to look at, I believe I'm seeing an upward trend.  And a lot more buyers are appearing from countries I'd never seen much of on eBay before (including China, South Korea, Taiwan, Serbia, Romania, etc.).

huh.gif

Yep! I have noticed that too, especially on the Sailor pens. They're almost selling as normal retail prices.

Yup, apparently eBay seller engeika's reputation has gotten out to the masses. I read old posts here saying his/her deals used to be the best, but now they seem to all close at near retail prices. And he/she isn't using reserve prices or any crazy claims like some other sellers. Bidding starts at 99 cents, and they just go up!!

I'm sad that I missed the boat on this one. wink.gif

Yes, it was precisely engeika I was thinking about. I was watching a Sailor Togi nib at a very low bidding price. I know they're expensive, so I just decided to watch it. In a few days it sky-soared to +$300. Now, it depends on the bidders for look a Platinum goldfish celluloid sold for $163 when it sells for no less than $300...is it overpriced? huh.gif

When i started this "collecting" phase involving my fountain pens,i had purchased two rosewood pen cases to hold them in.Each case holds eight pens.I told both my wife and myself that when i filled them both with nice, quality fp's,i would stop.I could trade all i like but would keep that same 16 in rotation.

I have done so and will try to maintain that promise.

I have approximately 80 pens. smile.gif

According to Ray Blake's excellent Pen Database, I have 68 individual pens entered, which means another ~15 or so are not counted, because they are duplicates, or undesirable/broken.

A group of ~35 pens are my ‘writers', which get rotated in and out of regular and semi-regular use.

A further ~10 pens are also writers, but seldom get used because they are mainly vintage pens, and I don't want to lose or damage them.

The remainder (~30) are unused, and were bought purely to feature in my collection as representatives of a particular style, model, maker or filling system.

only 6 fountain pens at the moment, all see daily use. 3 are vintage and 3 are modern. also have 6 disposable varsity FP's, but i didnt count those.

as far as regular pens, ive prolly got 100 or so, nothing special, just a mix of RB's, BP's, gels, liners, etc. used for writing and drawing. thats how my pen affliction started-i love buying and trying new pens of all different kinds, trying to find that 'perfect pen'. moving to fountain pens has forced me to slow down my purchases due to the added expense, not to mention that im enjoying the search for the perfect combo of pen, ink, and paper.

On a similar thread a month or two ago or so, I was right at fifty, have gotten over half a dozen since then, mostly Hero users plus three Sheaffer Stylist "Flighters", oh, yeah and a Sheaffer Imperial "Flighter" and Imperial Sterling (both uninked tongue.gif ). My motley collection consists mostly of vintage Sheaffers and Parkers that are not used much, don't want to leave them sitting around inked up and getting crusty. The work gets done by the Heros. wink.gif

n°13 arrived last saturday and it was the 360.

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time

I originally got two Sheaffer Targas and a lot of Cross ballpoints when i was working for The Broadway department store ( before they got rid of their Stationary dept and then got eaten by Federated). I did not get any pens for a long time (I was happy with the two, one loaded blue, one black).

Now thanks to the Internet, I have some 10 vintage fountains, starting to get new modern fountains and ballpoints (I found Retro 51, unfortunately, ha ha) and I am lovesick over the Danitrio Densho's I have seen here. (I must have this pen).

But my next falling, will be a Pelikan M800 to keep my M200 company.

About 60 FPs and an assortment of ballpoints and pencils.

I keep thinking about selling some, but can't bring myself to do so, but I have now gone three weeks without buying one (a nice used Duofold Mosaic), so I am becoming a bit more discerning.

David, stunning selection of Vacumatics, unfortunately don't get much of selection in the UK and buying in the US can be expensive once taxes and shipping are added.
