Here's a glimpse of how hand crafted nibs of the same "tip" size can be so different from one another...

It definitely wasn't easy finding three BBB in different models, but it was a fun trip.

In essence, it's not the actually nib size that matters, but rather the size of the writing tip that does the talking-- or writing, whichever expression you prefer.

Questions and comments are welcome!

It appears the tip size compensates for the shortcomings in pen size! the smallest nibs' BBB is widest.

...and what do you suppose Sigmund Freud would have say about that? ;) Seriously though, the 144's nib looks like a paintbrush compared to the other two pens.

Soot, why is the 149 your least favourite of the 3?

Would you do a side-by-side writing sample?

Tracking down that nib size in those pens must taken a good bit of time.

Hari, It seems that way!

J, it was the most pricey, the least performing, and lastly -- it just doesn't compete with the 144 and 146 in the tip size regard. Of course, I am being specific to this particular 149 that I have, not saying other 149 BBB are like this.

I second the call for writing samples.

Hi Gary, orfew, side-by-side samples ---

see from this post: https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/index.php/topic/256484-a-pictorial-review-of-various-1950s-meisterstuck-broad-nibs/

The 149 BBB line is about the same as the 146 BB in the post, and the 146 BBB line falls between the 146 BB and 144 BBB. I hope that doesn't sound confusing...
