Waterman Us Or French Brand?

Interesting story I think, WM was created in US by US citizen, but since 60s of XX century its main factory is in France. Not certain if there is another in US, but WMs for EU market are made in France. However WM brand is still own by US base company.

So do You consider WM to be US or French brand? I consider as French one, well they mark their pens as WM Paris or WM France.

It depends on the age of the pen, and the impression. I was showing Waterman C/C to a friend of an earlier generation, and he proudly declared "It may be rubbish, but it's British rubbish, because his childhood was filled with Waterman UK ads (on the side of trams and such). Currently, it's very much a French pen, but once one goes back to the 1950s it's a more open question-- even after the official close of the US company in 1953, Bic kept up production under the Waterman name in the US until... I think at least 1961.

It's mainly pens, just now....

Oh, good heavens. He's got a blog now, too.

Personally I don't give a hoot if they are US, French or whatever.

I think they consider themselves French as the indication for a broad nib these days is L for Large which is the French indication for broad.

By the way, I read some rumours that they are to be going to do some production in Poland. As with all rumours, it may be true, or not.
