Your Very First Pen?

So what was your very first pen? My first was Hero, I was abt 12 (I dont remember exactly) as far sa I remember it wasn't good writing instrument. Abt 3 years later I bought myself a Parker, I dont have it any longer & I dont remember whitch model it was (some cheaper one it cost 12-15$).

 

My first more serious one was Waterman Maestro, it was a gift from my grandparents for my 18th birthday. I still have it, it didnt write but I keep it for sentimental reasons.

That would be my Waterman Phileas. Of course, this was back in the day when they weren't $200 a pen. I think I got mine for well under $100. Still have it to this day. Uninked as of right now, but I will probably put some Heart Of Darkness in it within the next day or two as this is reminding me of just how much I like that pen.

That very impressive start. BTW 823 is on my "want to have" list. So it only on the photos, I heard it quite large pen with really large nib?

My first pen was a lever fill fountain pen, I bought with my pocket money age 11 in 1949. I was probably the last of the lever fill era!

My first was a Parker Vector, loved that pen definitely got me hooked onto fountain pens.

Other than some translucent green cartridge pen I bought for about 8 Deutschmarks in Germany during middle school (I couldn't tell you what it was for the life of me, just that it was required for school), my 'first' would be a Jinhao X450 in 'distressed black', that I got back in early february of this year. ... it got kind of expensive and crowded from there.

Guess what? "First" in the subject only, this sub forum search, Indeed yields a big old hens egg.

 

However, OP, IF you change that search to "started" you do A LOT better.

And to answer your question, my first pen that I recall that was My Pen was either a clear Red or Blue, rounded ends Sheaffer school pen.

First real pen? Lamy 2000. That subsequently had its piston seal fail. Luckily, Lamy's lifetime warranty covers beyond the first owner, so it's been up and kicking again since about a year and a half ago.

Probably a Sheaffer School Pen similar to Bruce, but mine had the flattened cone ends.

I think I had clear, transparent green, and maybe transparent blue.

Favorite color ink was Sheaffers Peacock Blue.

As a relative newcomer, a Waterman Carenne, followed quickly by a CS Wellington Anniversary Edition as a gift from my wife. Then it was down the steep slope of acquisition. Waiting on a Belliver as I type...

My first quality pen (i.e., a pen without the logo and address of an automotive parts store) was a Parker T-ball Jotter. The early T-balls were actually a pleasure to use. My first fountain pen was a Sheaffer School pen, vintage 1960. (Yea, I used peacock ink, too.) My first fairly serious FP was a Targa 1001, vintage 1980. I still have it, and it's presently in the rotation.

My very first FP was the Varsity. I saw it on a blog somewhere. Next was a Vista. Nowadays I mostly use my Ahab. I think the Konrad fits my hand a tad better but it developed a seepage problem that I need to fix.

It's fairly large compared to most pens, but doesn't seem too large to me as I have rather large hands. The nib is indeed huge, the only ones I've seen larger are the 149, M1000, and Namiki Emperor. It's a wonderful pen, but mine was a bit scratchy and dry out of box so it's off with Mike to fix that up. I cheaped out though and bought mine on amazon, so as long as you go with Binder or Mottishaw you shouldn't have any of the issues I've had.

My first fountain pen, not counting a random one as a youth, was a Pilot Varsity I bought to sign a card. I thought it was neat to have a disposable fountain pen. Then I bought an Arts Alternative EF sketch pen and I've been buying various pens since then. Mind you "since then" was only a few months ago. I've always had a thing for nice pens. In highschool I did all my writing with a Faber Castell technical pen. Everyone thpught y writing was actually typed.

My first fountain pen was a Parker Reflex in red. My first self bought fountain pen was a Safari charcoal medium nib. I still have the Reflex knocking about I think. The Safari is still in rotation.
