Hello All,

 

I've been lurking for about 6 months and started posting a couple of weeks ago, so I thought I'd go ahead and introduce myself more formally. My name is Sarah, and I am addicted to fountain pens. I used them for the first time many years ago while an undergrad, then got distracted. I'm a scholar in the field of Renaissance poetics, and won a grant last summer to work in a library holding an autograph manuscript of one of "my" authors. Getting to touch the hand-written work of someone who has been dead for 400 years gave me the shivers (in a good way), and renewed my interest in writing by hand. I jumped right in to nib grinding (so that I could get the perfect italic to imitate the lines on that manuscript) and have now started in on hobby restorations.

Hello and welcome. I am glad you have joined us. Please don't be shy about asking questions or stating your opinions. I believe you could help many of us. I have never ground a nib. I have some I would like to grind from a medium to an extra fine but I haven't the nerve. I actually have two Parker Vactumatics from the 1940s that I don't use because of their generous medium nibs. The idea of ruining a nib in one of those pens . . . yet as they are they are useless to me.

Maybe if we all shout at the same time, we can convince the Chicago Pen Club to move their meetings from Hillside to somewhere up North or Northwest.
