Goulet Nibs

Recommended Posts

I've heard good things about Goulet nibs, and am planning to buy a couple in the next few weeks. I've heard of pens that were dry wrote much wetter with the Goulet nib. My Monteverdes (Prima and Intima) are dry writers, so I'm planning to get Goulet nibs for them. Has anyone used Goulet nibs for Monteverdes before? Can you share your experience? If not with Monteverdes, can you share your experience in general with Goulet nibs? Thanks!

Franklin-Christoph, Italix, and Pilot pens are the best!
Iroshizuku, Diamine, and Waterman inks are my favorites!

Apica, Rhodia, and Clairefontaine make great paper!

I don't know bout "much" wetter but I like a Goulet Extra-Fine on my Monteverde Invincia Deluxe (nighthawk) more than I like the black fine it came with, feels smoother than the monteverde nib. Also for some reason the black monteverde nib doesn't seem to like Noodler's Black Eel, almost like the black coating repels the ink (works fine with Tsuki-yo, Ama-Iro, etc though), where as my Goulet EF on it handles everything I throw at it.

I also use a Goulet 1.5mm Stub in my Nemosine Singularity (much smoother and better flow than the 0.7 stub it came with), as well as a Goulet Medium in my Jinhao 159 (again smoother than the stock jinhao medium, bout the same wetness).

Both the Pen and Nib above are Goulet Exclusives (the original Nighthawk design).

All three of my Goulet Nibs have been excellent.

Quick write sample from earlier this month. The Goulet EF is in my Monteverde, and the Monteverde Nib is in my X750. As I mentioned before not all the inks I have agree with the Monteverde Nib (while both the Iroshizuku inks I have flow rather decently in it), where as all the inks I throw at Goulet run fine.

Edit: Another more 'recent' one on some Arc Paper (comes with Staple's Arc Notebooks)

I am very happy with the Goulet nibs. I'll just add the the Noodler's non-flex nibs are also pretty nice and a bit lower cost (and sold by the same merchant).

Naturally, I've put the Goulet nibs into Noodler's Konrads. I have one Ahab and it's meant for a special ink, so I've never tried a Goulet nib there. In the Konrads, the nibs are great. With certain inks, the extra fine nib lets me write with inks that do not work with the regular flex nib. I also really enjoy using the stub nibs with Konrads.

I tried the Goulet nib in a Jinhao 450 a few months ago and it didn't work at all. But, I hated that pen anyway. I decided to try another Jinhao 450 since the quality is supposed to vary a lot. It was "meh". But, today I put in a Goulet 1.1mm nib and the pen was transformed. It was a fun pen, and I even filled it with J. Herbin 1670 Rouge Hematite: an ink I never like to use. It was great!

I have no experience with the Monteverde pens or any other brand and these nibs.

These nibs have no flex, but a quick read of the description reveals that. They look classy, and even come in a dual-color version. Now that I've fallen for the Jinhao, I may purchase one of these to go with it. They really are good pens and very smooth.

ETA: I purchased the full range of sizes and am really glad I did. I had no idea how fun a stub could be. Since then, I even purchased a stub nib for an Edison pen as a result of my experience with Goulet. By the way: Goulet nibs do not fit Edison pens.

I *kind* of did the same over time, with EF, M and 1.5, leaving me with just F, B, and 1.1 to get.

I only went with the 2-tone ones, the GP Logo on them really pop next to the gold plating, so that's an added bonus on them being nice writers.

I have a #6 Goulet nib in one of my Edisons right now. It definitely fits and works great.

Any particular thing you have to do to swap the nibs in those (screwmount) feeds that they seem to be sold with?

I put a Goulet Broad in my Konrad - transformed it. Not that it wrote bad, but it went from ok and it got used but not real regularly. Not anymore!! I keep Apache Sunset in that pen. In fact I need to refill it......

No. The Edison nib and feed are just friction fit into the housing. Pull them out, and replace the Edison nib with a Goulet nib. I have several Edison nibs and a Goulet 1.5mm, and they all work great in my Edisons.

That's very good to know if I ever pick up an Edison.

Hi Pen Quest & Gerbil Charmer; a bit O.T. but while you're both here...

How does the black finish on the Monteverde Intima and the Monteverde Invincia Deluxe clip, section, etc., hold up over time? I was thinking about trying an Intima, but I've heard the black coating wears or flakes off; especially on the black section.

Thanks, David

I believe that SOME Edison pens take a #5 nib, so the Goulet nibs wouldn't fit those - The Writing Desk stocks #5 Edison nibs so there must be a pen using them!

You can spot a writer a mile off, they're the ones meandering in the wrong direction muttering to themselves and almost walking into every second lamppost.

I have a Goulet 1.5 mm on my Nemosine Singularity and I absolutely love it. :-) I plan on getting one for my Vac 700 at some point, just because I think the two-tone would look super snazzy. They really are wonderful and great looking and a great price.

I have a Goulet B nib in my TWSBI Vac 700 and it is one of my best writing nibs if not the best. That's saying something when it writes better than Montblanc, Pilot, Sailor etc...

PS: Those are titles (which you can change) not names, the names are Blue_Moon and KBeezie :P

Far as the black finish, on specifically the clip etc I've only had the pen for little over a month so I couldn't tell you long term, but where the cap screws on there's already some signs of seeing a tiny bit of the brass on where the paint has scraped off from the threads, still screws on smooth though. But I have heard of similar complains on the review section of Goulet Pens (particularly the original version like mine), but the Nighthawk was a Goulet exclusive, and they stopped production of it in march, so it may have only been a matte-black thing.

Thanks, seems to be half the reason why I love getting *new* pens... to photograph them :P (now if I could just make a career of just that... lol)

You can make a career out of it if you combine it with some retail skills. I know if I'm going to buy online I only buy from people who take their own photos of the merchandise and do it well. Anderson Pen Company and Goulet Pen Company both do very well at that. It must be important to others as well or they would just use stock photos rather than hiring a photographer.
