Pfm Cap Repair Question. Inner Cap Replacement On A Pfm Ii.

Cyclopentadiene

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Wondering if someone can help out with a PFM II issue. I'm Not experienced in repair but eager to get this sorted.

Got what looks to be a leak that's caused the plastic inner cap to degrade, unusual as I've only been using diamine inks but anyways.

After washing the cap out thoroughly there seems to be no end of brown crud emanating from the spring loaded clip. Got a feeling its from a rusting spring thats up there.

On to the question; is it possible to remove and replace the inner cap (on a PFM II) so I can find out what's going on?

Many thanks for your help in advance,

Badger

Ron Zorn is the guy to ask about this.

He's usually good about keeping an eye out for questions, if he doesn't see this soon, PM him and link to this thread.

If you look further down the page below, you'll see the tools required to do it (inner cap extractor with a PFM collet).

Laurence Oldfield who makes the tools, used to offer a repair service but now only sells the tools. It does say on one of his web pages that he can recommend alternative repairers if you drop him an email.

Hi

You can sometimes get away with using one of those expanding wall bolts to grip the inner plastic cap and pull it out, although if yours is disintegrating enough to expose the metal clip retaining clip you may have a problem getting it out even with the correct tool.

It might be safer to send it to someone more experienced and who has access to spares.

Hi all,

I've decided that I'll contact a few UK repair places once I get some cash. Although not of sentimental value I'm rather fond of the pen so don't want to go around fooling with the cap and end up denting etc.

Paul80, do you happen to know of any suitable repair persons? I know vintagepens.co.uk and battersea pen home but apart from that don't know any UK based persons.

Thanks to all for input,

Badger

Hi

There are a couple based in Scotland that I have used in the past, I will dig out the details when I get home tonight.
