Custom Master Scrivener For M1000 Nib

Scriptorium Pens

Recommended Posts

Every now and then someone asks me to make a pen to fit a Pelikan nib they already have. This time I was sent a beautiful Pelikan M1000 nib to go into a custom Master Scrivener in Midnight Forest alumilite by Jonathon Brooks. This was my first time to see one of these nibs up close. It is huge! I had to extend the cap a bit more than usual to accommodate the extra nib length. The cap bands are sterling silver, and the pen will be used as an eyedropper. The barrel is about 15mm - 15.5mm in diameter. The cap is around 18mm.

Wow, giant beauty! I like that a hint of blue.

I can't believe I'm making fountain pens! pen.18111.com

That is one gorgeous pen. The blank has a wood like grain to it and the silver bands are a beautiful finishing touch.

Fantastic pen! The blue/moss green contrast in the alumilite is really striking on the cap. The barrel and section provide a nice change of pace from the brighter color present in the cap. Was it made from two different batches of the same color? Silver was certainly the right choice to go with the material.

Does the Midnight Forest alumilite have some of the same characteristics as the Olive Branch alumilite in terms of the way light plays on the material?

The pen was made from one long, 9" blank of alumilite. Its basic color is a silvery taupe, with hints of blue and tawny gold thrown in. It has a beautiful pearlescent shimmer to it, and it does look different as the light plays on it. It's similar to the Olive Branch in that respect, though this has more of a woodgrain appearance, while the Olive Branch (from Muttblanks) has more tight swirls. The Midnight Forest is part of the Forest Wood alumilite series Jonathon Brooks has been making for me.
