New Pens On Asapens

Hari,

What feeds do you use for the smaller pens? In the bigger pens I replace the feed with a No Nonsense feed (unless it's a Kim and Co.).

I have had good luck with the Gama stock feeds. I have read that they are simple, but I have had no problems with them. If the pen sits for a bit they seem like they are wet at start up and then settle down but that is it. I do expect the blobbing and dripping when the pen is almost empty, so I check them and fill them when I have used up some ink. I have not tried to fit a vintage feed. I have a number of loose vintage nibs but no feeds.

I write this and then see that your question was addressed to Hari. Sorry for butting in.

Is this a new model?

Yes, this is what I have been told.

Perhaps some inspiration from Deccan

Most likely like the pen marked No. 10 (with nib #10) in the below link

Actually i find it very strange that many pens that ASA has do not get listed on the site. Though they do not call any pen limited edition, the pens sell out and take long time to restock.

Like recently the Himalaya Top was made only a few pieces & sold out even before getting listed - and despite of over a month and half having passed i have not yet seen it listed.

I guess this pen might face similar fate.

So how does one get on the elite list that gives access to these special models? I'm a newsletter subscriber, but I never heard of these! and I am a regular visitor to the site as well...

I can only speak for myself - if i wanted / fancied a certain type of pen (ebonite or otherwise, handcrafted or any brand or even NOS), i would send its pic or description or if its something new, then the modification description or even a drawing to Mr. Subramaniam.

To his sincerity - whenever he finds such pen or if its a new design pen- when the things are conducive, he usually wrote back / contacted for confirmation.

This process usually happens within 6 to 8 weeks. It has very rarely happened that he could not find such pen.

I guess this thing is happening with many others & i am not alone :-)

However one thing i have found that he would not arrange it for you if he thinks that price or quality is not right - even if you are ready to pay a higher price or even ready to compromise on quality. However such thing has happened to me only once or twice.

I can also say (by my estimation) the variety you see on the website may only be 10% or 15% of diversity of his actual inventory.

I would also add that though some of the "brand pens" are not listed on the site, he can easily arrange pens like Sheaffer, Faber Castell, Pilot etc - and its not just limited to FPs but also BPs and RBs

Thank you! I have corresponded with him, and in fact he is helping me find a pen body for a nib unit I already own... so I guess for other pens I'm interested in or might be, I'd just have to ask him...

Hari posted the photos of the larger Gama Airborne. I have been meaning to send Mr. Subramaniam a message asking about availability.

The bigger size airborne - both friction fit & schmidt fit would come sometimes soon . Better book your FP beforehand. I already booked the schmidt one.

If i understand it right they already have some stock of friction fit bigger airborne, though its not yet listed

Even the Brahmaputra is on line perhaps this month.

I really feel that once a certain kind of FP is public & has been sold or reviewed ASA should be posting detailed images of these FPs on its site to keep everyone informed. I cant understand why this is not done.

I was told ASA-First was for this purpose. But find it only contains FPs that are listed. Infact in my view it should be ASA that should be first in breaking news with the images before it sells it to anyone or even before any review.

I suspect that they are a small operation and as such may not have the camera skills to take detailed photos.

Also, thank you for posting the comparison photos. I will have to reach out.

I think its more of time constraint. Mr. Subramaniam can be pretty good with camera skill when he wants to. I rather suspect he loves his pens more than wanting to sell them so gets to keep them with himself for longer time !!!

I am still waiting for my Airborne ! He has sent me all these pics long back but still not sent the FP !!!
